Planning for my Surgery & my Fabulous weekend trip

Mar 28, 2011

Hello!! I have been busy. I just finished paying for all my hotels & rental car fee's. Today...I also purchased our plane tickets, almost had enough air miles for one RT ticket, so the fare was super cheap. Only had to buy one RT ticket for my husband. He's an MVP so no charge for our luggage. Flying into Ontario, renting a car & staying one night at the Marriot Courtyard, in Anaheim. The room is fab and the pool even more fab. Will be staying busy in the pool & sight seeing, and not thinking about the In & Out Burger joint. Then going to Disneyland the next day, will be driving down to San Diego after we leave Disneyland. Staying one night at Motel 6, in San Diego, since we are getting in so late from Anaheim, makes sense.

Then the next day we are checking into The  Manchester Grand Hyatt. OMG this hotel is so great, got a corner suite on the top floor over looking the ocean, will be fantastic and yes...Fab as well. On Saturday, we are going on a marina boat tour around the San Diego Harbor and then going aboard the Midway, a floating museum inside an Aircraft Carrier. Then after that,
we are going to Torrey Pines State Park, on a 3 mile hiking expedition. I love wildlife so I hope to catch a glimps of all the lil creatures running around, this park is home to coyotes, grey fox, raccoons, bobcats and so much more. Also there are wonderful views of the ocean seaside and badlands. Then that night we are going on a ghost tour of the Gaslamp District. Like that show Ghost Hunters. Soo cool!!!

On Sunday...back at the hotel,  I am planning a full body massage, light touch, not deep tissue, (those hurt) to help with my my leg circulation, before my surgery the next day. I even convinced my husband to get one. I most definitely will check out the fabulous pool area and relax in the Spa's,  infinity pool. Can't wait to be pampered. Then that night I am planning to get to bed early and be ready to meet the driver who will take me to the hospital for my VSG surgery on April 25th 2011. So as you can see I have a pretty fab trip planned. trying to get a lil fun in while I am there, cuz I know after surgery It'll be awhile till I am out & about.

Surgery update

Mar 26, 2011

Unfortunately I had to reschedule my surgery & it is coming up on April 25th. My daughter got in a fender bender which caused me to dig into my surgery money for car repairs!! so I had to rebuild the kitty so to speak. Tomorrow I make my final payment online and feeling relieved it wasn't postponed further. I had gall bladder surgery last yr and it took me like 3 wks to re-coop. Man I was very emotional after surgery, I hated that, I remember being super fragile, weepy and everything I'm usually NOT. But with that experience I am a lil more mentally prepared. I am a self pay and my after care doc is totally against my surgery, but I am going through with it none the less. She is against surgery period, not just in my case.

I am flying in to Ontario, with my husband, we are then going to Disneyland for a day and then driving down to San Diego. Have a few fun things planned before surgery, My doc is Dr. Ramos Kelly in Mexico. One of the things that lingers in the back of my mind is the stapling involved. I think "what if one comes undone, then what". I know ...I know...but if I had no concerns I probably wouldn't  be human. lol

I still wonder how I am going to feel on the 2 wk liquid diet, sounds intense and I know I will prob not feel much like eating after so that helps with the whole idea, but other than that I am ready. I remember after my gall bladdr surgery last year, the anesthesia really messed my stomach up for a day, but once I got it all out of my system, I was sooo much better. I can't really do pain meds b/c I have a weak stomach, so I guess it is just tylenol or ibuprofen, any suggestions there?? I will also discuss this w/ my doc and see what he says. One thing I am not looking fwd to is the flight home from Ca. to Alaska.

On the plus side I am very excited to start a new chapter in my life and ready for a change in my whole approach to food and eating in general. there are sooo many activities I wanna do, with this surgery I will be able to take control.  I have spoken to some really nice people on here who have not only wished me well, but have shared lots of their own valuable information that is priceless. Thanks so much for that. So I am now less than a month out and looking forward to the big day. I will update the day of surgery, even if I have to have my husband do the entry for me. Plz keep me in your prayers and I will do the same. God Bless.

Warmly,
Mellissa

First visit w/ my Primary Care Dr.

Jan 11, 2011

So I went to see my new doctor today, she was very nice and informative, but totally against me having any WL surgery. I listened to her advice and then called my facilitator  when I got home to discuss my doctors concerns.

I have found that a lot of non bariatric Dr.'s are not in favor of the surgeries out there for WL. This is only my experience, and I have to wonder if it is due to the fact they just don't know more about the advancement of WLS or they are just personally against it. Period. HHmmm. I am not sure.

She recommended I go on weight watchers. Again!!!

I'm still planning my surgery. During my appointment I did have all my labs done so I know what going on inside this body of mine. I feel good. Hope you do too.

Trip to Barnes & Noble in Anchorage

Jan 06, 2011

Today at Barnes & Noble I bought a bunch of books, two on WLS and eating right after surgery and one on ghost stories, Paranormal Activity etc. etc. and one book I love to read over & over, The Last of the Breed. I plan to read the WLS books cover to cover and continue to gain as much info as possible. I have my physical with my new Dr. set for next Tuesday, where I will inform her I am seeking WLS.
So.....If I can get her approval I can submit it to my insurance, but if not I am still a self pay.
