Had my One month post-op appt today :)

May 26, 2009

Things went great today at my one month appt.  I'm right on the average rate of weight loss for the first month out.  I've lost a total of 34 pounds from my surgery that was on April 27th.  I lost  9 pounds before surgery.  Total weight loss so far is 43 pounds.   I'm already feeling a difference with the back and joint pain I use to have.  I wouldn't say it's completely gone but it's resolving.  I've done things I haven't in years, I went roller skating one saturday a few weeks back.  I went swimming and also went down the big high pressure water slide.  I'm going to sign up after I get paid for a 3 time a week water aerobics class for resistance training.  My doc wants me to hold off another two weeks before weight lifting.  In two weeks from now my goal will be to go 4-5 times per week.  I have to go back to work on June 5th.  I'm bummed because I really enjoyed staying home and spending time with the family.   I work 12 hour shifts over night at the hospital, then in the day I have to sleep.  This will be hard to adjust to AGAIN since I've been sleeping at night and awake in the day for almost 5 weeks now.    I've had so much time on my hands, and soon I will go back to the busy working nights and trying to sleep in the day.  I hope through all the hurry and rush I will still keep on track with excercise and eating right.    I'm really excited that I got to start soft foods today.  I was on the pureed/ blenderized foods for 15 days now.  I went shopping tonight and got turkey meatballs, fat free non salted crackers, sliced smoked tomato flavor turkey slices from the deli, reduced fat swiss cheese, and veggie burgers.  I hope all these foods will work out for me.  So far I still haven't got sick at all.  No dumping syndrome or throwing up.  I also tried a piece of whole grain reduced calorie bread that I toasted and cut the crust off of with a little bit of peanut butter on it.  It was fine for me.  I was scared to try bread because I know some post-op people can't tolerate bread ever again.   I heard it fills like it gets stuck.  Everything I buy now at the store is reduced fat or fat free.  I 'm reading food labels.  I did notice eating healthy cost a whole lot more money.  It's too bad that junk food cost less.  Maybe thats why americans are getting larger and larger.   More children are also obese.  The bread I bought was almost $5 bucks because it was high in protein and reduced calories.  The pack of (4) veggie burgers where more money then buying a pack of hamburger meat.  I guess eating healthy and living healthy now is worth every cent.  I know in the long run it will pay off.  At least the food will last me alot longer since I don't eat as much, and I know my hubby won't touch it because it's too healthy.   I know I sound like I'm complaining but I'm not.  I just have to get use to this new healthy way of living.  I don't miss the grease and fatty foods.  I'm just having a hard time thinking of something different to eat everyday that is healthy so I don't get burnt out on it.  I'm so burnt out on fish and chicken right now.  I will be on a turkey fix for awhile and also try those veggie burgers.  I had for dinner tonight 1/2 slice of swiss cheese.  1/2 slice of sliced turkey deli meat(thin sliced)  and 1 1/2 turkey meatballs that I put alittle spaghetti sauce on with a sprinkle of real parmasean cheese.  I was so happy to not have to have chicken or tuna tonight.  I also get to start trying to eat cereals that are high fiber, high protein, and no sugar.  I bought the off brand of rice krispies.  I will have a small 1/2 cup tomorrow and see how the cereal sits in my pouch.    Well I think I jabbered too much tonight.  Take care everybody.  Also feel free to let me know any ideas u have on food recipes that are healthy. -Crystal
