3 month check up

Aug 16, 2010

I had my 3 month appointment with Dr. Gagne on Friday, August 13, and things are great!  I've lost 67 pounds so far and I'm thrilled!  I'm starting to feel good and I'm able to buy a size 14 jeans????!!!!!!!  That was a big wow for me!   Dr. Gagne said that I am 44% of the way to my goal.  I believe the goal he has in mind is 177.  I think I would like to go lower than that....once I get there.  We will see what the next 3 months bring!  I can't wait!

A little scarey...

Aug 08, 2010

On Friday, July 23, I had a big problem with bleeding, unrelated to my surgery.  It was a scarey ordeal.  On Friday morning at around 1:30 a.m., I got up to go to the bathroom, but ended up on thrashing around on the floor.  I convinced my fiance that it was just the humidity and heat and I felt better.  Then, my 5:30 a.m., I had gone to the bathroom and realized that I was losing blood.  I was extremely weak and fainted (sort of) in the livingroom.  My fiance then rushed me to the hospital.  I ended up in the ICU that night because I had lost so much blood and they couldn't find the source.  I had 2 endoscopes and a colonoscopy.  In my intestines, I had an Arterial-Venous Malformation (AVM), which was causing the problem.  They burned out the offending blood vessels and my problem was fixed.  I was released from the hospital on Monday, July 26.  I am so thankful that I received the care that I needed in time.  I am still trying to recover from being weak and tired from all of the blood loss.  I am also experiencing some nausea just about every day.  At about 2 weeks after this ordeal, I am trying to return to my regular schedule....and I'm going to try to hit the gym after work today.

Lost 8 pounds this week!

Jun 29, 2010

I was so worried because I really struggled with a 2 pound gain one week and then the next week I lost those 2 + 1 more.  Finally, this week, I lost 8 pounds!

Some improvements and some setbacks...

Jun 21, 2010

Well, on my weigh in on Thursday, June 17th, I found out that much to my dismay, I gained 2 pounds this week.  However, I have been able to discontinue the 2 water pills (Torsemide and Spirolactone).  I've been on water pills for 12 + years.  I have not noticed any great swelling, although I must be retaining some water since I've had a gain this week.  PMS doesn't help anything, either.  Hopefully, my body will adjust and I'll start losing again.

It really hurts to see the pounds creep back up on the scale

I am glad to be off of 2 meds, though.  Also, just this week, my glucose readings have dramatically improved!  I'm on the same amount of insulin as I was when I was released after surgery.....just all of the sudden my readings are better.  Definitely a good thing.  My 3 week bout with constipation has been resolved....happy to report that things have been running smoothly in that department!

I tried some salad with grilled chicken on it for the first time this weekend and it made me very sick in my stomach.  I will not try raw vegetables, again, any time soon.

Today is exactly 4 weeks since surgery and I've lost 40 pounds!

Jun 03, 2010

I had my surgery on Thursday, May 6, 2010, so today (June 3) is exactly 4 weeks since the day of my surgery and I got on the scale to find out that I've lost 40 pounds!  I am so excited.  I'm eating a lot of tuna fish salad, made with fat free Miracle Whip and onions, celery, and hard boiled eggs.  I'm also drinking Isopure Protein drinks (I really like the Lemon Tea/Black Tea flavor).  I'm walking more every day (40 minutes to 1 hour) and I also go to the gym a couple of nights per week for the exercise bike (usually 30 minutes), treadmill (20 minutes), and use some of the weights in the gym.  It's just such a relief to see things going in the right direction after years of failed attempts.  Love my pouch and love my doctors.  I hope this love affair continues!

So excited! Loss!

May 18, 2010

I went to the gym yesterday and could not resist getting on the scale to see how I've been doing since I had surgery on 5/6.  I was so excited to see that I lost 24 pounds!  Seeing that number on the scale made me feel like all of the pre-op activity, the pain after the surgery, and all the walking was worth it.  Things are going the way they should.  It's just the beginning, but I'm very happy!   It was the shot in the arm I needed.  Thanks for letting me share with you.

I did it!

May 17, 2010

I had my surgery on May 6th and have recuperated nicely.  Today (May 17th) is my first day back at work and I'm feeling good.  I have been walking my dog a lot and drinking my water and Isopure.  Things are great!
