Surgery finally over

Mar 04, 2009

I had my surgery on Feb 23rd 2009.  It was tough and I am still very sore but happy it is done.  I get full from sugar free popcicles and water.  I feel hungry most of the time now.  I have lost 12 lbs in the last week and a half.  Seems a bit slow to me since I have eaten little to nothing.  But I know that patience is going to be very important on this journey.

The journey begins ...

I went to my PCP last week and told him my plans and asked for his support.  I was shocked when he actually "WAAA WHHHOOOOD".
Needless to say he is very supportive ... he has recommended Dr. Tim Kuwada.  I was recommended to Dr. David Voellinger by a close friend who had the surgery in 2005.  So I signed up for both of their seminars.  I will be able to meet and speak with each of them.  My PCP wants me to be very careful with my choice of surgeon.  He is happy with either of them ... so I am waiting until. I meet them ... and hopefully it will be an easy decision ...

I have attended the SouthEast Bariatrics Seminar(terrible experience) and the CMC bariatrics Seminar (wonderful experience).  I have an appointment on Nov 6th to meet with Dr.Kuwada one on one to discuss my case.  I have been able to locate (thank you all for your valuable suggestions) all the way back to 1994 of my medical history and weight loss attempts.  So I feel like I am well on the way to the operating room.  It has been a wild ride so far, I cannot imagine what the next few months hold.  I have been purchasing clothing like a wild woman recently, why?  I don't know.  It is ridiculous to spend money on clothing that (hopefully) won't fit in six months.  But for some silly reason I felt the need to.  Cannot wait until Nov to find out what Dr. Kuwada says ...

It has been a difficult year but I finally have a surgery date with Dr. Keith Gersin on 2/23/2009.  I was thrown back because of a serious car accident in Feb of 2008.  My original surgery date was May 5th 2008.  It may be nearly a year over the original date, but I truly believe things occur in the time frame they are meant to.  I am very excited as this time grows closer.  I just need to get my BMI down a couple of points before then.  I am sure I can do it and have already dropped 7 lbs towards that goal.

I just had another visit with the dietician today.  I have my BMI at 55 now.  However, she wants me to drop another 10 pounds just to be safe.  This confused me since I will be starting the liquid diet on the 9th of Feb.  But, I agreed to continue on the program and to do everything I could to do that.  I am so thrilled to see that light coming closer that I am agreeing to anything at this point.  She told me that it was just a bit over a month a way and hearing someone say it outloud made my heart skip a beat.
