I wasn't big my entire life and was never inactive. All my life I played sports (soccer, ice hockey, field hockey, etc.), so I couldn't understand why I was bigger than the other kids. I never had a problem with overeating, and never had any health problems. But when puberty came, it came with a vengence and I gained weight like crazy. Though I was big, I still wasn't inactive...played sports all 4 years of high school, and recreationally with friends since then. For the past decade, I tried every diet, with tons of exercise and I still couldn't get under 300lbs, no matter how hard I tried. Went to see doctors for bloodwork...nothing...I was perfectly healthy...just fat.

Well, I got tired of being fat, so I went to a few bypass seminars, was interested, but never really had great health insurance. I moved across the country, got side tracked, but stayed always active. Since moving back to NJ, I've obtained great health insurance, and after a bad experience with 1 doctor and his office staff, I did some research. Finally, in May of 2010 I went to Florham Park, NJ to meet with Dr Alexander Abkin. Instantly I felt very comfortable with him and his staff, so I knew I found the right doctor. Then, part-way through the process, I found out that BC/BS changed their policy and dropped the 6 month supervised diet requirement, and my surgery was pushed up from November to August. I had my RNY Gastric Bypass done at St Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ on August 9, 2010. I was in the hospital for about 2 days, no complications, and so far, I wouldn't trade this experience for the world.

I look forward to a happy and healthy life.
