Day 3

Mar 28, 2009

Well, I got to move up to full liquids this morning.  I must admit a carnation instant breakfast never tasted so good.  Still working on my liquid protein.  The hospital gave me a couple of test tubes of a fruit punch flavor that is really good.  I've been adding it to my 32 ounce water bottle and flavored it with some sugar free hawaiian punch.  It tastes really good.  I also got take a shower this morning and boy oh boy do I feel better.  I also got to remove my On-Q pump this morning.  It was kinda weird, but it actually didn't hurt.  Well, I feel so much better and I have had to use less of my pain meds which makes me feel really good.  Slow and steady progress is the name of the game.

Day 2 of my new Realize Band

Mar 27, 2009

I'm home and doing pretty good.  I'm still a little bit sore, but nothing I can't handle.  Although, I am really happy to say that I finally found a pain med that does not give me the dry heaves.  I haven't been taking much of it, but I am glad to have it if I need it.  Well, off for my nightly walk and time to play with my incentive spirometer too.

More Exciting News!

Mar 08, 2009

Well, at last count I was waiting for the call from the Bariatric Center at Georgetown to call and give me a date for the surgeon's consult.  Well, after many failed attempts to reach someone...a real person not just their voicemail...they called me on Thursday.  I was able to schedule my pre-op appointment.  So, on March 19th I will be going to the surgeon and that is when I will be scheduled for surgery .  OMG!!!!   I am so excited.  I have also gotten all of my pre-op testing done.  Took care of that the day after they called me.  Got the bloodwork, EKG, MRSA nasal swab and chest x-rays all taken care of and the center has already gotten the results.  I'll definitely be keeping all of my readers posted about the date I receive for surgery.

I'm back!

Feb 26, 2009

I didn't realize how long it has been since I last posted.  I got so busy with taking that big pharmacy certification exam and then getting back to my normal life (sorta).  I guess I should catch everyone up.  I took that big certification test at the beginning of October and found out two and a half months later that I passed.  So, YEAH!   After that I took an exciting trip to Des Moines, Iowa for a chapter visit for one of the collegiate chapters in my pharmacy fraternity.  Had to go play LKS police and make sure they are doing everything they are supposed to be doing.  Later that month in October, a couple of my friends and I flew to NYC for an NKOTB concert   at Madison Square Garden.  For you youngin's out there that stands for New Kids on the Block and yes they are still together and just got back together for a big tour.  Check out their new CD, The Block,  it is pretty good!  Well, I barely survived NYC as I came down with a case of the stomach flu from Hades.  I still managed to shop in China Town and go to a show (we saw Spamalot and it was awesome), but I did manage to lose quite a few pounds thanks to that. Although, I would not recommend weight loss via that route

November was a little less busy, but I still had to get caught up with all the stuff I had to put on hold for the test.  December calmed down too.  January flew by so fast that I am having a hard time believing that Easter will be here soon.

Let's see...what did I do in February?  Worked, then went to St. Louis for another fun filled chapter visit.  Worked some more.  Was supposed to go to Indianapolis for another fun filled chapter visit, but had to cancel that one thanks to a wind storm and losing some shingles from my roof.  Still waiting for insurance to approve getting that fixed.  I got to go on a retreat with my RCIA (aka Catholic) class and had a fabulous time.  Worked again and then found out on Ash Wednesday that I got insurance approval .  So, as I am giving up coffee for Lent I will also be weaning myself off of caffeine and carbonation.  I guess in the back of my mind I never thought this would happen.  I guess I subconsciously chalked it up to not likely.  So, I guess now everything will be down hill from here.

I guess 2009 is going to be a big year of changes.  I am going to get banded and get baptized at Easter so that I can officially join the Catholic Church.  Watch out 2009...here I come.

Nine days until the big test, but who's counting?

Sep 24, 2008

Well, there are only nine days left until the big test and then that hurdle will be done.  Also, have dropped off my diet progress sheet again (3rd times the charm) at the doctor's office.  Here is hoping that something good will happen this time.  Hopefully, I will be finally rid of that pending status and will have approval next to it.  Can't "weight".  I am hoping to get that faxed in early this afternoon and maybe then I will hear something by next week.  That would be another big load off of my mind.  Well, I am going to keep my fingers crossed.

First full day of Fall and I am still waiting

Sep 22, 2008

No complaints really about the waiting.  I realize that I have been waiting for a miniscule amount of time compared to others.  It is just really painful waiting for an insurance approval.  Life would be much more simple if the insurance company would say yea or nay.  I can then create a plan B.  It is just being in limbo is so frustrating.  I guess it is a good thing that I have plenty to do while I continue waiting.  Actually, plenty to do is a bit of an understatement.  I work 7 on/7 off, so... this is my week to work (work week is Saturday-Friday).  Race for the Cure is this Saturday.  I have to study for a big test that is coming up on next Saturday (October 4th).  Back to work for a week.  Then I have a trip to Des Moines and a trip to NYC in October.  Well, at least I am having a good time.

Pending approval!!

Sep 05, 2008

Well, of course the insurance company would update the website on a Friday to let me know that I am now pending approval.  So, that means another long agonizing weekend of waiting.  Although, I suppose I have survived these past 2 weeks waiting for the paperwork to even be submitted to the insurance company, what is another dew days of waiting.  I am just so excited that I have moved from the I don't know what is going on at the insurance company phase to the pending approval.  I promise to keep everyone up-to-date as I get more information.

August already??

Aug 01, 2008

It is so hard to believe that today is August 1st and that I am only 17 days away from my first pre-op appointment and only 19 days away from my 32nd birthday.  I guess time really does fly when you are having fun.  I think the reason this summer has flown by so fast is because I have finally taken advantage of my 7 on/ 7 off schedule.  I have really started to live this summer.  I've been to Hilton Head and Pennsylvania this summer already and next week I will be in Savannah for a convention.  I am doing more stuff for myself and I think that this in turn has made my journey to WLS so much more smooth.  I just hope that there is plenty to prepare for this surgery.

First Pre-op appointment set

Jul 31, 2008

I know that is has been a few days since I last posted, but in my defense I was outta town and a very holistic spa in Pennsylvania.  I had a great time and can wait to go back for another stay.  Anyway, I got all of my paperwork into Georgetown Bariatric Center at the beginning of this week and I have already my date for my first pre-op appointment  .

I have to be in Georgetown at 7am on August 18th.  That day I will me with the ARNP, get some blood work done and checked for H. pylori.  That afternoon I get to meet with the surgeons and somebody else.  I have to keep a food log the week before I go.  I am guessing that it is a good thing that I went ahead and requested my medical records....So, I should be able figure out how fast this process is going to take...although it is already going a lot faster and smoother than I ever anticipated.

Some days I really hate this job!

Jul 18, 2008

I love being a pharmacist, but as with any job some days are better than others.  Take today for instance.  Things were going great.  My benefits advocate called to let me know that the insurance has been switched on their end it just takes Humana about 48 hours to process the change.  I can then go and print my new cards.   So, yeah things are moving in the right direction.

Well, then things go down the drain.  We get a call for the ER that we have a pediatric code coming in .  Okay, kids are resilient, but I don't like going to those in the first place.  I know it is a bit archaic, but I just can't stand to see men cry.  That just pulls at my heart so much and then I become a big blubbering pile of tears .  Well, needless to say, the baby did not make it and now I am feeling really blue.

So, like the title says....some days I really hate this job.
