My story of obesity issues started with my birth. I weighted a hefty 8 lbs. 15 oz., and was told I looked like a 3 month old. By the time Mom & Dad took he home, the doctor had me on solid foods. Thus the sadness and battle begins. In addition to obesity genetics, the doctor didn't advise my parents on a healthy diet for a new born. My grandmother also kept telling my mother to feed me more--up to double portions.  As I grew I was obese and did not learn to make healthy food choices or to eat appropriate serving sizes.

By the time I was 10 years. old, I weighed 191 lbs. Mom and I joined Weight Watchers, but I did not lose much (less than 20 lbs.). Throughout my childhood and teenage years I was active playing sports and always on the go , but I continued to be obese and was 250 lbs. by my high school graduation . As an adult, I have tried over-the-counter pills, prescription medications, and countless exercise routines and equipment. By the time I was 35 years old, I gave up trying to be a "normal" weight and resigned myself to a helpless situation.

Then I met a co-worker that had WLS and went from over 300 lbs. to about 130 lbs. As she told me her story, she gave me contact information for the bariatric clinic that she went to and information for me to get started . That was in August 2011 and is when the journey to my new life began. I took me 2 years to get an insurance to cover the procedure which I used the time to do extensive research on every aspect of the procedure as well as learning how to use the new tool successfully.

Now I have completed all the requirements to proceed and June marks the start on the journey to the new me.
