EGD's w/ dilation are completely painless!!! You are asleep the whole time and don't remember any of it when you wake up. Also...you feel much better after they are done! The ONLY discomfort is getting an IV started!

One small tip: If you are pre-op and are taking an oral birth control , I suggest you stop taking it and have your cycle just prior to going into the hospital! I did not realize that they can cause blood clots and so I had to stop them AS I went into the hospital...well, as you know - when you stop your pills, you will start your period - and so I did, just 2 days post-op and it was not fun dealing with that AND recovery in the hospital!!! It was miserable...so talk to your doc and see about stopping it sooner and being done with the "monthly" before you have surgery! Good Luck!!!
