I am a 34 year old mother of a wonderful 3 year old boy. I work as a 911 Operations Supervisor.

I have been heavy my entire life (in fact, my "goal" weight is 20 lbs. less than how much I weighed when I graduated from high school). I have done every diet imaginable, worked out regularly, and obviously, none of it has ever been permament. As my son gets older, I have realized just what a hinderance my weight is - trying to keep up with him has been a major hurtle, and scary at times (like when he runs into the street). I also realized that it is very hard for me to promote for him to live a healthy lifestyle when I wasn't doing it 100% of the time. I want to be around to see my son grow up and have children of his own! Also, I want to be healthy as I age - which I know was not going to happen if I stayed heavy.

Having this surgery is the best thing I have ever chosen to do!! I am soooo excited, and nervous, but know the outcome will be well worth it!!

Since I have had my surgery (Aug. 2006) my life has changed dramatically.  I am now 50 pounds from goal and even though my weight loss has stalled, I am losing inches and gaining muscle.  I lost very quickly in the begining and love my new active life that I have discovered.  It is fun to run around chase my son, sit on the floor with him without my legs falling asleep and just being more healthy all the way around!  I can now be the example that I always wanted to be for my son, and that is the best gift that this surgery has given me!!
