Nov 18, 2006

Well I had my follow-up appointment with my doctor this week. I am down 15 pounds. He told me I am healing very well. He also released me to eat anything I want. He told me to enjoy it now because it will change once I get my first fill. He showed me pictures of my band that he had taken during the surgery. In one of those pictures, there is a lot of room between the band and my stomach. He said because of that room, I will probably be able to eat normally up until my first fill. He said that is very normal. He said it's all trial and error. He told me I will realize what I can or can't do. Today I ate chicken strips and french fries from Wendy's. Boy did that hurt. It took me forever to get through it. I ate the entire meal, but it took a lot of time. The fires were really hard to do. I ended up having to drench them in sauce. I realized if I don't chew well, I get chest pain. Even if I do chew well, I sometimes still get that chest pain. I am just wondering how much different it will be after my first fill. I am scheduled to get that first fill December 6th. I am ready! The doctor also told me I can exercise. So I plan to head to the gym this week. I really enjoy working out. I have eaten normally for the last three days. So far, I have eaten asian food, pasta, salad and fried foods. All of which are fatening! I'm horrible! The good thing is, I am not eating as much as I did before. Thank God! I ate so much before. I am just ready for this first fill, that way I will be restricted. Physically, I feel great! I feel as if I never had the surgery. I don't feel weak or anything like that.

Nov 11, 2006

Wow, it's been one rough week. I have felt like total crap this entire week. I finally went back to work on Thursday. By Thursday night, I was vomitting. I threw up 12-15 times. I had to call in to work on Friday because I felt terrible. I called the Doctor's office, and they seem to think I am dehydrated. The nurse said after you have this surgery, your stomach produces a slime, and if you don't drink a good amount of water, that slime will build up and upset your stomach. So I stayed at home all day and drank as much water as I possible could. I have also had problems eating what I am supposed to be eating. For instance on Friday, I only ate the juice from vegetable soup and some applesauce.  I woke up this morning feeling a hundred times better. Thank God! I plan to continue drinking water today, and eating what I need to be eating. I have been chewing one Flintstone vitamin a day. I have also been chewing a lot of Gas-X chewables. The chewables seem to work a little bit better than the strips. My stomach is always rolling, and I can never figure out if it's gas or hunger. I have to admit, I look forward to next week, when I will be able to eat mashed potatoes, something with substance. There's only so much Jell-O and applesauce  you can eat.

Nov 08, 2006

It's been two days since I had my surgery. I had my procedure on Monday. It went really well, except for the fact that I got sick. Every surgery I've ever had, I ended up vomiting afterward, because of the anestesia. The nurses had to keeo giving me medicine for nausea. I kept trying to throw up, even though there was nothing in my stomach. That kind of caused my incisions to bleed more. My surgery was at 8. I was at home by 11. I slept so much when I got home. The only thing I ate was Sugar-free pudding. I went to work on Tuesday, and ended up having to come back home. The pain got worse as the day went on. It finally got to a point where I had to leave. Everyone at work kept asking me if I was okay. I must have looked terrible, because most of them didn't know I had surgery. I kept it kinda hush, hush. I ate some vanilla pudding that afternoon and I drank some chicken broth. Today, I called in sick to work. I didn't want to push myself too far. I am able to move around a little better, but there's still a lot of pain, especially when I sit down. When I am layed down, it doesn't hurt as bad. I am drinking beef broth right now. For the last three days, it has been so hard to get anything down, but I know I have to. My incisions look okay. Some bruises are starting to show up, but that's to be expected. I may feel like crap now, but here soon, I will feel like a million dollars.. I am so happy I have something to look forward to.

By the way...I lost 7 pounds from my pre-op diet.

November 5, 2006-Night Before My Surgery

Nov 05, 2006

Well, the time has come. I can't believe it's finally here. I started my pre-op diet a week ago. The first two days were rough. I was starving. It also didn't help that it was Halloween. There was candy everywhere I looked. After the third day, things started getting a little better. Here is what my pre-op diet looked like every day:

1:15 p.m.-2 scrambled eggs and 1 slice of toast
5:30 p.m.-8 oz. Protein Shake
7:15 p.m.-Baked Chicken & Green Beans
9:00 p.m.-8 oz. Protein Shake

It was alright. Here it is the night before, and I am not hungry. 8 Days ago, I was stuffing my face with anything I could find. I can't wait to start working out. I love working out. I just hope I can find a good gym. I am thinking about trying 24-hour Fitness. That way if I want to sleep in during the mornings, I can go to the gym after work at 11 p.m. I think that's cool. I am really excited about getting this done. It's an awesome feeling to know I am about to change my life. I think things will go very well with me, esecially if I work out. Thank God I was athletic in high school. Therefore, working out is easier for me.
