Moving along...

Sep 06, 2009

I met with surgeon, Dr. Mecenas, a second time. He gives a quiz about RNY to see how much info you've absorbed from their literature and the support group meetings (and, of course, OH and other sites...) and oddly enough, the only question I got wrong was "how much can I expect to lose after the surgery." I said 1-2 pounds per week... of course it's closer to 1-2 pounds per day for a guy. I knew that, really, but was in a hurry. Funny that I would miss that one, ha ha!

I've had an abdominal ultrasound, nothing unusual found. No gallstones, so he probably won't take out my gall bladder. I need to remember to ask him if he uses the prescrip med post surgery to help avoid gallstones.

I had my preliminary appointment with the NP at the gastroenterologist's office... seeing as I'm closing in on 50 they're going to do a colonoscopy as well as the prescribed endoscopy. Looking in both ends, oughtta be fun times. Ha. Assuming they find everything where it oughtta be, I think this may be the last hurdle before submitting to insurance and setting a surgery date.

I think about this all too much. It's overwhelming. I just can't contemplate making permanent life changes. It's out of my control, really. A lot of this is out of my control, it feels like. Of course, I can stop the process and not have the surgery, but I can't imagine losing 80% of my excess weight (getting under 200 pounds, whatta concept) any other way. So I feel I do need to have the surgery.

I worry about not keeping with the program after losing a bunch of weight, and gaining a bunch back. I must take this one day at a time, I guess, and focus on what I can do today.
