8-13-07 10 weeks post op

Aug 13, 2007

Way too long between posts but much has happened. Last week of July, my mother-in-law passed away and we spent 1 week in the town we grew up in....checking out our old favorite restaurants. Didn't eat much but couple times ate too much and felt miserable. Kept asking my husband, why did I do that? I know better. I am getting better at stopping now. During that week, I flew past the 50# mark and I am now at -59#. I hit ONEderland last weekend and am at 198#. I have been shopping...clearance time is sooo great. I don't mind paying clearance price on things that are too small cuz I know I will eventually fit into them. So much of my clothes are just sooo big. I do sew and make my own scrubs so I am also able to take them in as needed. XL Pants fit and are getting on the large size. I did get some size L on ebay so I am set.  While I was off, the girls at work put together a basket full of fabric for new tops for me. I haven't made any yet cuz I'm not sure which size to make but they will come in so handy.  I did have somewhat of a WOW moment---someone who did not know I had surgery stopped me and asked me how I was losing. That was the first person to say something who did not know about the surgery!! YAY!! ALSO I realized today that when i walk, MY THIGHS DON'T RUB TOGETHER!!!. What a feeling!! I can bend over so much easier. I went on a bike ride 6 miles. I haven't been able to exercise because I fell down the last step and twisted my ankle but it's getting better. I have had NO REGRETS on having this surgery. NONE. I am so thankful.

I am hovering at 210# which is -47#. I am feeling good and have not dumped. The only problem I have with food so far is with turkey and chicken, seems to stick in my throat. I have stopped 1 blood pressure medicine and today I got a call to decrease my cholesterol medicine to 1/2 a day or 1 every other day. My cholesterol was 221 last December and is 147 now!!  WOOHOO!!! I am also titrating my CPAP down. I haven't been able to use it since my surgery. I have taken in alot of my scrub tops and am wearing size XL pants, down from 2XL. My other clothes are hanging on me but I will survive a while longer with that. I am SOOOO thankful for this surgery. I have been able to talk to several people about the surgery. I will talk to anyone that will listen!!
Till next time. Mel

6-27-07 (1 month out)

Jun 28, 2007

1 month visit--215#. That's down 32 in 1 month since surgery and 42 total. Dr. Dan and his staff are so supportive and encouraging. There is not much pain anymore. The only side effect of this surgery is some minor numbness in my left upper leg which the dr said is normal and will come back. I occasionally feel like someone has snapped a rubberband in that area so I do feel that it is working towards coming back. Otherwise, no complaints except that I have to return to work next week. I really do like my job but have enjoyed this time off. (and it makes them miss me!) I am having trouble using my CPAP, it blows my mouth open and I get awakened with a very dry mouth. I don't want to have a sleep study at this point because I have high hopes of getting off of it eventually so when I get back to work (at the hospital) I will ask the dr if we can just turn it down a few notches and see if that works for now. My husband says the snoring is not as bad but I have sleep apnea so I want to continue until that is better. As far as appearance, I can tell in my face and abdomen. My clothes are too big but I roll up the pants and tie them tighter. I bought some scrub pants on ebay to get me through work and am fitting into the XL now, was in 2XL. I make all my scrubs and will be able to take them in for a while. My diet is progressing and I have had no problems with any foods. I tried tuna and a little miracle whip yesterday and also some ground beef. (always chew chew chew) VERY GOOD TO EAT ALITTLE BIT OF NORMAL FOOD! Til next time, best of luck to upcoming surgery people. Mel

Recovering

May 29, 2007

HI, this is Mel's daughter, Amber. She wanted me to update you.  She had her surgery today.  Got into surgery around 1pm and I didnt hear from the Dr. until 5pm.  He said things went good.  They were going to let her sleep until 10 pm and then get her up to walk.  I will keep you posted.  "THANK YOU" for the prayers and support you guys give her on here! It helps A LOT!

5-28-07 Rough day

May 28, 2007

Prep is NO FUN. Got most of it down, nausea, vomiting. Better now. Now clear liquids-I can do that.

I love this website-there is so much support here. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. And for all you Tuesday people going with me, my prayers are with you for a good day tomorrow and a speedy recovery. Thank you, God, for this chance to have a better, healthy life.

One more day of Optifast. I am ready. I wish it was done and I was home. I am still not scared or worried and that worries me! My attitude is everything will go fine, pain will eventually go away and life will go on. I will update as soon as I can. My prayers are with all who are going to surgery with me on Tuesday where ever you may be, may God guide the hands of the surgeons, nurses & health providers and that we all have a quick and easy recovery. God be with us.

All the horror stories about Optifast have proven false at least to my taste buds. Could be worse. I think I can take this for 2 weeks. Alittle hungry tonite but I'll survive. My daughter put some pictures on here but I'll have to get with someone about the avatar--fuzzy. Thanks Amber.
