4-11-07 I'VE GOT A DATE

May 29--would have been sooner except for some vacations in our dept. but YIPEEE anyway! I'll have pre-op class, pre-op testing and get the scoop on Optifast on May 7. I will be on Optifast starting May 14 until surgery. Seems so far away but it will be here before I know it!  Good luck to all who go before me.

Got a call from the Dr's office saying they are sending a referral letter to my insurance. I have been approve but to a different facility. This just needs changed. After they receive that, she said we'd talk about a surgery date. FINALLY!!!

I was in and out in about 1 1/2 hours. Not bad at all. Going for abdominal U/S, Chest x-ray,EKG and blood work tomorrow.

Saw the nutritian gal-Robin today. Very nice. She let me know that we are a team...everyone in the office. I will be on Optifast 2 weeks prior to surgery.

Psych eval--This was fun! She said she kept wanting to call me Karen...I told her I was having an identity crisis. We talked. She said I wasn't crazy...I told her that's good to know--many people were concerned. She gave me a test to take...I told her I hadn't studied so don't expect much. She did tell me I was a smartalec! (I knew that)

Got my packet today. Pre-op testing wil start March 16 with the Psych evaluation, March 19--nutritionist, March 26--endoscopy and April 11 with a cardiology consult. I've already had a stress test so hopefully no further testing there. It's kind of scarey thinking it's all starting to move and surgery is getting closer but this is such a good thing. Looking forward to being able to get around easier.

I've been thinking lately of my sister-in-law. She died in 1987 at age 46. She was a single gal that was very over weight. She died of a massive stroke and I just want to cry when I think what this surgery could have done for her. She was a fun person but held back so much because of her weight. What a difference this could have been for her.

I went to the support group tonight. This was fun. It was so encouraging to hear all the weight lost from this surgery, different stories, road blocks and milestones. There was an owner of a spa there and we all got parafin hand dips. This was fun and such a good thing. If you aren't involved in a support group, FIND ONE!

Had my first visit with Dr. Dan. Very impressed. He went over EVERYTHING and was very confident. (Confidence is good here!)  Answered all my questions. The entire staff seemed energetic and very knowledgable. They went over the pre-op testing which seems very thorough with no surprises on surgery day. Approval is done so will wait for pre-op testing. 

Oh-and when she weighed me today, she put down 266 which I believe is 10 pound heavier than the scales said. I will ask her to weigh me again next visit. Don't want to be a cheater ; -)

So far, I have attended 2 seminars, 1 at Barix and 1 at Summa. The reason for that is after calling my insurance to see if they have anyone in the network and them telling me NO, I went to Barix. I got approval in 4 days but was told if I went to Summa, I would be covered 100%. Anger......time wasted.  So I went to the seminar at Akron City Hospital. It was so more informative. Now I am waiting for my doctor appointment with the Summa physicians on Feb 28. I have most everything I can think of done. Barix ordered a stress test, which was positive (more likely due to breast attenuation) so a stress echo was scheduled rather than a heart cath. (I had no symptoms, was doing it only for surgical clearance)  Stress echo was negative. I have had a C-pap for 2+ years and use it nightly. I am hoping I will just need the pretesting that is required and that it can be done quickly. Approval is done and just needs to be transferred to Summa. So the wait is on.....
