BMI follow up...

Apr 10, 2013

Also, I just checked my BMI from when I first started - it was 42.5.  I am now at a much healthier, but still considered overweight, 29.5.  Once again - It is hard to believe the change!

6 months post-op

Apr 10, 2013

Greetings!  I haven't written in a while.  The last few months have been really rough on a personal level, not because of my surgery or weight loss, but because of other issues that have been going on.  It appears that those things are getting better or will be resolved soon, so things are looking up.  I am now down 86 lbs in just six months since my surgery date of 10/8/12.  I can barely believe it sometimes.  I have gone from a 3x usually being too tight to buying XL shirts in the normal section of the store - no more 'women's' sizes for me!   When clients who I haven't seen come in they barely recognize me.  My husband calls me "flaca" now - which is Spanish for 'skinny'.  I haven't had migraines since I recovered from my surgery.  I am off all my blood pressure meds except a small dose water pill once a day.  When I came home from the hospital, I was on insulin because I was diagnosed with diabetes after my surgery - I am no longer taking the insulin and have mostly normal fasting blood sugar levels (in the range of 90 to 110).  I still take 500 mg of Metformin 2x a day - but that will probably be for life.  I feel great, look great - according to friends and family - and am much healthier!  I am only about 20 lbs from reaching my original goal - again, it is hard to believe!

Here's to all of our continued success!

it stopped moving, again

Nov 07, 2012

Well - almost 30 days post-op and I am at -31.5 lbs and -16.25 total inches.  Pretty good!  I wish the scale would be more consistent right now, though.

I joined Curves today, and my first work-out said that I burned 473 calories - that is half of my daily calorie intake!  I am hoping that it will help build up my stomach and back muscles, and help get rid of the constant pain in my back.

It finally moved!

Nov 04, 2012

Finally - the scale moved after about a 10-day stall.  I thought I was doing something wrong.  I think it might have been because I got my period last week - I am famous for retaining water during that time.

I am past my first hurdle - over 30 lbs gone! So excited!

3 weeks post op - questions and concerns

Oct 29, 2012

Wow - can't believe that it has been three weeks today since my sleeve.  I was so excited that I had lost 28 lbs in that time frame!  Now I am concerned because the scale has been up and down, but never less than when I weighed in at the doc's office on Thursday.  is this because I am eating some real food again?  I am still getting less than 700 calories a day, and I am trying to be more active.  I am back to work now full time.  My sugars are under control/consistent, and I am eating all my protein.  Normally this would be around the time of my 'monthly gift' - could that be affecting the scale?  I am also noticing that I am not 'regular' - the doc said it was probably due to the high amount of protein and my body isn't used to it yet.  Should I be concerned?  What do I do to get things moving again?  It isn't painful, but it is starting to get uncomfortable.

I am sure I am just being silly, but this is all new to me and I don't want to mess anything up.  Thanks for your input!

Post-Op visit today....

Oct 25, 2012

So...had my post-op visit today.  It is official - I have lost 28.2 lbs since 10/5 - Not too shabby!  I am proud of myself for making it through the last three weeks on the liquid diet and getting through surgery.  Today I get to start eating soft foods!  For the next two weeks, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream soups, outmeal, etc will be my friends!  Never thought I would be so excited about being able to eat again!  They even say you can baby food meats...if I remember from when my daughter was tiny, those were not my favorite!  However, every little jar has 8grams of protein!   They also said I could have tofu, and even suggested adding fnon-fat dry milk powder to my fat free milk to double the protein content.  Once I get in the 60g of protein, then I can have things like regular oatmeal, mashed potatoes, and cooked veggies.  No raw veggiew or fruits, and only unsweetened natural applesauce.  Currently making a list so I can go to the grocery store!

Feeling pretty good - work has been slow this week, so I was able to transition back without much stress.

Going to rest for a bit - then off to the store!

2 weeks post-op

Oct 22, 2012

if the bathroom scale is right - I have lost 28 lbs already!  That is crazy...

Four of my six incisions have pretty much healed - two are still a bit touchy.  They all itch - alot!  I really didn't have a lot of pain from the actual incisions or surgery.  I battled a lot with nauseau though.

I went back to work today - part time this week, then full time again next week.  I did ok - tired but good.  Rested this afternoon, and trying to stay un-stressed.  Still not getting all my protein in - I am having a really hard time drinking the protein supplements because they are all sweet.  I have been supplementing with broth from soups - my husband is probably getting tired of eating just the chunky bits of the soup that I leave - the noodles, veggies and chicken.   I have my post-op appt on 10/25 and hope to be able to start eating some foods at that time.  I have no idea what the next step foods are.  Maybe I will be able to actually eat the noodles in my soup now?

Feeling good - happy to see the changes in my body.

three days post op

Oct 11, 2012

Well, this has been a bit harder than I thought it would be!  I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and sent home on insulin after surgery - threw me for a loop.  Hopefully this gets under control quickly.  Not really sore in my incision area, but my back and legs hurt - very strange.  In the hospital my blood sugar and blood pressure were out of control, much better now that I am home.  Still not getting in all my protein - but am trying to drink as much as possible.

1 more day before surgery!

Oct 06, 2012

We enjoyed a great dinner last night!  I have started on all liquid today - working on getting in my 60 grams of protein.  I am hungry, but ust keep telling myself it will be a bit easier after surgery.  Trying to spend quality time with my daughter and husband this weekend.
