My Story

Mar 13, 2009

My name is Michele. I am 31 years old and I have a loving husband and 2 boys. I am big boned , as they say, and I never had much of a weight problem until high school. I was 130 in Jr High and by the end of Jr High I started getting my period and my hormones were out of control and that was when the weight started to pile on. By my sophmore year of high school I was up to 155. By the time I graduated I was 175. I was in a size 10 I felt HUGE. I hated to go out in public and I became so withdrawn. I tried liquid diets, atkins, I became vegan, everything to include throwing up. I was totally unable, for the life of me, to lose weight. I started to see my PCP when my husband and I first got together because I wanted my weight under control. She put me on birth control and I instantly gained 20lbs. I went back to the doctor crying and she said "well, at least your not 200lbs" , but I was 197 an I felt like 597. I cried and cried. Shortly after I got pregnant with my first son and I was 232. I gained 10lbs with my pregnancy and by the time my son was 3 months old I was down to 215. I got a job working nights and I stopped breastfeeding, and within 9 months I gained all that weight back and then some. I was 240. 3 years later I was pregnant again and I went up to almost 270 while pregnant (mostly water weight but it was still scary). After giving birth I went back down to 230, however, my husband deployed and then I packed on 25lbs in a year. That was due to eating out and not being able to control my eating and using food to cope. I went to my consultation for surgery weighing 262. Today, March 13, 2009, I weigh 252. I am at my 2nd highest weight ever. I go for my pre-op work on March 17. 2 weeks later I should be having surgery. I hope to reach my goal of 130 within 2 years of having surgery.
