8 Weeks Post-Op

Jun 17, 2008

Well.  I am still stuck.   However, I now know why.  After a couple of "scientific" experiments I have determined that no matter how many or how few carbs one consumes the body stops burning the fat and burns the instant energy first.  Potatoes, bread, crackers, anything with refined flour in it.  I actually gained 5 pounds and then lost it all so I have located the source of my weight loss stall.  Stupid me.  I guess that I should have known this all along but I didn't realize it.  I would eat a half of a very small potato along with some chili and cheese and my weight loss would just stop!

Well, no more of the bad carbs for me!  I am on the way down and hopefully I won't have to look back!!!

7 Weeks post op...

Jun 10, 2008

Darn, I am stuck!  I can't seem to move lower.  Oh well, I guess it'll start on it's own good time.

Went to Disneyland and had a blast.  I learned that it cost a lot less to eat out because you can share w/someone...  It really worked out great!

I guess I am going to try to get more protein in and see if that will start my loss again...

5 Weeks Post Op...

May 29, 2008

Another week another 5 pounds...  I'm down to 210 now.  I just hope the weight loss will put the brakes on when I get closer to goal...  Feeling better all the time.  It is so nice to have tubes gone.

Pants are getting big.  Almost ready to go to an smaller size.  38!!!  I'll be happy at 36!!!

4 Weeks Post Op... 5-20-2008

May 20, 2008

4 Weeks since my journey began... 5 more pounds that will not be gained back!!! I go today to the dr to hopefully take out my drain from the infection... I've had a drain for one reason or another since the operation... What a pain in the ... Stomach! I went on a trip for 2 days that turned out kind of stressful and it appears that the flying and everything helped me break the stall I had for the past 2 weeks!!! Hopefully I'm on my way down again for at least couple of weeks!!!

Update!!! I finally got the tube removed... WHat a pain that was... Trying to "work around" that all the time. You can't lay comfortably, can't sleep right for fear that you might do something to the tube, it's just an all around nuisance! Now it is gone!!!

21 Days Post Op... 05-13-08

May 13, 2008

Well, 3 weeks have come and gone since my surgery.  My infection is still hanging on.  Tried to have the drain taken out yesterday.  Not yet ready.  Maybe next week.  I have become stuck on the 30 pounds lost.  I guess that was "my after surgery boost."  So, I'm stuck at 220.  I always get stuck there.  I guess something will happen to get the ball rolling again...  They say that after 2 weeks the stall happens...  I'm not too worried.  I have this sleeve for life and so 2 weeks is a tiny amount of time by comparison!!!

15 Days Post Op. 05-07-08

May 07, 2008

Well, it has been a long 2 weeks. I have lost 30 pounds. I think some of it had to do with the surgery and some had to do with being sick. I hate to say anything about this because some may link it to the Dr. I honestly do not think it was my Dr.'s fault. I am very susceptible to infection, so who knows what caused it.

I had one of my incisions become infected. I spent a day in the hospital and they drained it.  .5 liter of nasty smelly stuff...  They took out one drain and inserted another. Anyway, I am feeling much better now and eating (drinking) and less fever...

I am happy for the 30 pound loss but only now my strength is coming back. I'm sure I felt rotten because of the infection. Now that they've drained the abscess, hopefully the drugs will sound the final death nell for this vile thing!!! I am extremely happy with my sleeve. It's kind of strange to not even have hunger, eating because I actually have to. Amazing...  All I can say is keep your wounds clean...  Infections are not fun...

5 Days Post Op. 04-27-08

Apr 27, 2008

Wow. I came out of the hospital at 255. Today I'm at 240. 15 pounds already gone!!! I've been drinking water and protein, trying to get in 400-700 calories perday. At least that is what the Dr said to do. I can't quite get it all in yet but I'm getting close...

This morning I went a little fast with everything so it all ended up in the toilet. So I'm starting over. Pain is controllable with the meds the Dr. gave me.

My blood sugar is getting kind of low so now I am taking half a dose. My sugar is below 105 every time I check. This sleeve thing is pretty darn good!!!

Pre-Op Appt. 04-18

Apr 18, 2008

Well, the appointment went fine.  Aside from the commute to San Pedro from San Diego, it went fine.

I met Dr. Owens and he seemed to think that for someone of my size and stature a VSG would be the way to go.  He even mentioned that it's easier to perform on taller folks.

I go Tuesday and they complete all the pre-op necessities in the morning and perform the surgery around noon.  So Tuesday afternoon it will be so long tummy its been fun...

Pre-Op Appointment 04-17-08

Apr 16, 2008

Well, tomorrow's one of the big days. I go to visit the Dr. for the first time. I've been on liquids for the most part for about a week and a half. I sort of slipped over the weekend and am getting back on track. That liquid diet is a killer.

I'll update my blog after tomorrow's appointment
