Jaime L.
9/21/06 - Hey everyone! My name is Jaime and I'm 24 years old. I'm the youngest of five and my oldest sibling is only 30. He's 2 weeks shy of being 6 years older than me and we have 3 others in between us..Yeah, my mom popped them out pretty quick. I've been obese since I could remember. When I was 13, me, my mom and my older sister all wore the same size - a 14. It only got worse after that. Now I'm up to an tight 18/20, which is about the same as I was in high school.
A few years ago I put on about 30lbs in 3 months and couldn't figure out why. I was working out everyday and on a diet given to me by a trainer. Still I kept gaining. After a million different ekg's , x-rays, needles poking, nerve tests, and blood tests, my mom finally asked me if they tested my thyroid - no (mom, aunt, and great aunt all have thyroid disease) They finally tested that and *POOF* that was the problem. Hypothyroidism...yay for me...So now I have a nifty Endocrinologist (Dr. Lahkian) who is wonderful and I take Synthoid 5 times a week. Yay for me and I was only 22 at the time...
So after I got on the Synthroid, my weight dropped down 20lbs with that and Atkins and I was able to lose another 20 with a personal trainer (can we say expensive??) Of course now I've gained that fluctuating 20 lbs back again.
I first thought about WLS about 2 years ago when my doctor recommended it, but I wasn't ready. I wanted to try on my own like my sister did. She went from size 14 to 8/6 from just working out and eating healthy. Apparently my body doesn't work the same way, so here I am. Ready to have WLS! The ony obstacle I really see is my insurance, so If I can get past that, this will definately happen.
I have also been diagnosed with PCOS and pre-diabetes. Boo for Metformin - I still can't take my recommended dosage cause it makes me sick everytime. Also, I have major major back pain, starting back to when the girls popped up when I was about 14. It's gotten to where I can ignore it most days, but I'd rather not have to try at all! Hope to have this surgery as soon as possible!! :)
So, Yesterday, I spoke to the scheduling person at Dr. Watson and she said the nurse had approved me for a consult on Oct. 27th! I wish it was sooner, but I'm glad I got in!
