I’ve been interested in weight loss surgery since 2004, and during that time I’ve changed my mind and allowed others to change my mind more times than I can count. This past year, I saw my weight slowly approaching 350lbs, I made the decision to go ahead and look into having a procedure done.
So I went to an information session at Jacobi Medical Center in Bronx, NY where I work and then another at Montifore Medical Center. I chose Jacobi because it would be more convenient for me. I found out that I would need to change my insurance or do 6 months supervised weight loss. I chose to change my insurance so I had to wait about 5 months to do so and them it would take affect at the beginning of the year.
This past January (2011) I officially began the process; I decided that I wanted the Vertical Gastric Sleeve surgery. I had monthly visits with the Bariatric Clinic, did labs, had an Endoscopy, and GI Tests, X-Rays and visits with the nutritionist. Once all this was done they submitted for approval and I was approved and my surgery date was set for June 23, 2011.
Now I wish I had done this years ago, in such a short amount of time my life has changed so much for the better.
