4 Weeks... Time DOESN'T Fly! :)

Feb 14, 2010

You know the saying, "Time flies when you're having fun"???  Well, RNY surgery and the first month following it is definitely not fun, so time has definitely not flown! :)  As much as I'm glad to have the first 4 weeks over, I feel like it's been the longest 4 weeks of my life!  (Even longer than the 4 weeks prior to surgery when I thought my surgery date would never get here!)

After 4 weeks, I must say I'm feeling "better/healthier" overall.  I'm still a bit tired at times, but it has been soooo nice to not be in a state where I'm eating until I'm so full that I feel sick.  I've lost 25 pounds since the day of surgery, so I feel better from a weight standpoint, as well.  I've been walking on the treadmill and last night I even played Wii Fit.  It's so nice to have a "stress relief" activity that doesn't involve food!

The most frustrating part is that I'm still having some sharp burning/pulling pains in the muscle near my belly button.  I  don't know if it's stitches pulling or what, but it is getting unbearable.  I am going to call the surgeon's office today since my follow-up appointment is still a week and a half away.  I definitely can't keep having this pain for another week and a half.

And, I'm going to knock on wood as I type this portion so as not to "jinx" myself by saying it.  I started on the "pureed foods" this past weekend (steamed veggies, highly shredded/cut up meats, scrambled eggs, etc.).  I have heard so many people say that they have trouble tolerating chicken and eggs and that they have trouble with food getting "stuck" in the beginning, etc.  Well, I tried numerous things this weekend, including grilled chicken and scrambled eggs, and I didn't have any problems!  I think it's great that I haven't gotten sick at all, etc.  However, it does scare me a bit.  I'm fearful that I'm one of the people who doesn't have intolerance to foods and doesn't experience dumping syndrome and that it will end up hurting me someday down the road when I realize that I can eat sugar and other "bad" stuff without any problems.  I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that that's not the case, and I'm going to avoid sugar so that I don't have to find out!

Well, folks, on to month #2!!  The journey continues...
