I am a 36 yr old mother of 3 children ages from 16 to 4.  I have been over weight all of my life from about the time of age 12.  I married my highschool sweet heart when I was 18 yrs old. we have been married for 18 yrs this April.  Weight has always been an issue up and down, losing 50 lbs one time, and 89 another, then gaining it back both times. I have tried it all crash diets, amphetamine diet pills, weight watchers, traditional diet and exercise. All of which are consistantly inconsistent and probably more damaging than being overweight itself. I only gained 10, and 14 lbs with pregnancy (where you are supposed to gain weight)  but with the birth / fostercare and adoption of my youngest child I gained 70... i guess it really is true stress adds the pounds to you!

I am having the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on Monday Jan 23, 2012 hoping for a great surgery and recovery with no complications. I should be spending the night at the hospital and returning home the next day.  Having already arranged for someone to come stay with me the week of surgery (my husband is a civilalian contractor in Iraqi) I am ready for this journey to begin. Probably like many others on this site getting the surgery has been a goal of mine for quite sometime.  Getting it approved through Insurance was yet another feat in itself. But having said all that All is a GO. I would like to  try and keep my post up to date as the journey takes off.

Post surgery support is great and well needed.  I think  we all need that kind of encouragement form others who have already had the surgery.   So anyone please feel free to leave your advice for me.  I am looking forward to a nice productive life free of the chains of obesity, one where I can participate in life and not just stand on the side lines and watch life go by.  Congratulations to all who have already or will be joining the life adventure soon. I wish you guys all the luck and success in the world.... .WE CAN DO THIS!!
