11 mos post op VSG.. (01/24/12- 12/31/12)
Dec 31, 2012
Well I have come a long way on this journey. I started out weighing at my highest 309 and I now weigh 165 !! it's so hard to believe and sometimes when I look in the mirror I don't see the "skinny girl" that everyone else sees. I know its there and I love the new me but I see myself as this progressively smaller person and they see me instantly as 309 to 165 as super skinny.. I do have some extra skin, fat whatever you want to call it to my arms, inner thighs, and lower abdominal area. All the skin on my abd appears to be attached to nothing meaning I can lift any part of it and move it several inches.. I am the healthiest that i've ever been in my life i'm quite sure.
Eating goes well for me, I can eat anything that I desire to. I choose to limit carbohydrates because they fill me up so quickly but I can tolerate them well and do eat them just not in large quantities. I continue to eat my protein first as to get enough protein for the day. I have found that Popeye's Chicken, skin or even breading off of the chicken strips make my heart race and I get flush feeling so I simply don't eat it.. but this is the ONLY thing that has this effect on me, and I can eat their naked tenders (no skin, seasoned and grilled or baked).
Vitamins- I have found the Centrum flavor burst adult vitamins to be great!! they taste good, not too heavy on your stomach and they are reasonably priced.
BIG NEWS so I found out I was pregnant on Dec 19,2012... making me due Aug 30, 2013 I was a little concerned at first because first of all im 37 1/2 yr old, and then obviously because I've just lost all my weight.. I was a little devistated but have adjusted well, I mean seriously pregnant, I have a daughter going to college in July.. but all things happen for a reason. My ob says everything will be okay and he thinks this is likely to be my healthiest pregnancy yet and I may lose weight the whole pregnancy, or I may gain some but doesn't think it will be a lot given my past pregnancy history. My first pregnancy i gained 11 lbs, ( 239- 250) baby weighed 4#4 oz. at 37 1/2 wks, second pregnancy gained 14 lbs (268-282) baby weighed 7# 10 Oz at 39 weeks. both of these pregnancies I had some form of preclampsia or hypertension problems. and c-section deliveries. I am hoping for no issues this go around and will probably plan a c-section again just because I will be having a tubal after this delivery. I am also planning on breastfeeding this baby longterm, longer that the previous which lasted about 5 mo tops. I hope anyone else who has has the VSG and desires to get pregnant is able to and that all works out well for them.
Nice talking with everyone and I will keep you all updated on the progress

for those of you having a VSG soon... get ready it's hard to believe (if you are like me) that you will ever be NOT HUNGRY.. but its TRUE the time is coming..It is remarkable, infact I find myself realizing I havent eaten yet and it may be 2pm.. so I personally have set timers and watch the clock and try to get something every 3.5-4 hr.. I choose mostly white meat, fish, chicken etc.. and eat mostly protein.. I choose to eat the protein first b/c its very important and I get full so Fast.. I tend to stay away from complex carbs.. rice, potatoes, noodles and bread.. but I do occasionally have them. however if I eat bread, like a biscut I don't have room for any real food.. so i tend to say no to those things.. but once in a while there is a craving that just says I have to have that.. and I WILL eat a bite or two.. I drink lots of water.. but since the surgery plain water gives me a weird after taste.. so I add great value flavor powders to it.. my fav 2 are lemonade, and kiwi strawberry.. I had my labs done and my potassium was just below average so I have been taking potassium tablets.. I go to the gym 2-3 days week and do a cardiovascular and strength training regime. I have lost a total of 74# since Jan 23,2012 avg of 12# per month. I am very pleased with the results.. I need to shed the "spare tire" ring around my lower abd.. it has shrunk very much but still alot to go... I encourage each of you to have a support group.. someone to encourage you along the way.. on the week when you don't loose or if youre a woman close to her cycle and feel like you've eaten the house down (really you havent but it's just more food than your used to now) someone to say.. "you are looking good" and "keep up the work" those compliments are the ones that motivate me to push harder.. stay 10 mins longer at the gym... its just the right fit for people on the weight loss track no matter how you have gotten here.. surgery, a great diet etc.. encouragement is always needed and ever so HELPFUL..
hope everyone is doing good and if I can help any of you please look me up! congrats to those who have lost weight, those who will lose weight, and those who are maintaining.. keep it up! best of luck to the post ops 1day -10 yrs... and congrats and best of luck to the future post-ops...
I have posted pics from my journey but have NO profile pic b/c none meet the 20k requirements... hope this helps others.........
