Carilion Memorial

"I would like to elaborate on the poor rating for pain. For the majority of the visit it was good, but when I first arrived to my room after the surgery, I wasn't put in the system yet, so they couldn't release pain meds until that happened. The first evening, no one would let me walk, so I had excruciating pain in my back all night. On my last day, the morphine pump & pain injections were discontinued (which would have been fine), but when I requested my pain meds (at the time I was instructed I could request it) it took 1.5 hours before I received them due to a computer error. By the time I recieved it, I was crying from the pain and it did little assistance. Luckily, my surgeon came by and requested a shot of pain meds to help me with the ride home. It worked like a charm."

Tananchai Lucktong

"My husband and I were both impressed by Dr. Lucktong on our initial visit. I have a tendency to be intimidated by doctors but found him to be approachable. He answered our questions completely and even added to them. We liked how he was very candid with us and was able to tell us how many of his 250+ patients had which complications (complication rates were VERY low). He also went on to tell us about the one death he had during surgery and how steps have been taken since to reduce the risk of it happening again. Dr. Lucktong stated that he believes in this surgery (for the right people), and if he didn't there are many other areas he could have focused on. He does have a long waiting list for his services, but he states that he keeps his new patients limited so he can give everyone the attention needed. He does have have a structured aftercare program and requests strongly his patients attend the support group. Overall, I was impressed. The only recommendation I would make is a more through workbook/text for patients rather than the folder I received. "
