It's official, I'm sleeved!

Mar 10, 2010

I just got home from the hospital.  I had my sleeve gastrectomy on Monday and the pain was a lot worse than I had expected it to be.  Immediately after surgery I was nauseous and it continued for over 12 hours.  I was dry heaving a lot and couldn't sleep.  They finally switched my pain medicine and gave me something different for the nausea.  After that things settled down.  I didn't even need any medications today, but decided to take some pain pills before leaving the hospital for the ride home.

According to Dr. W. I'm a bleeder.   He said every time he touched me I started bleeding.  Despite that, the surgery went fine.  I ate some jello and 3 bites of eggs while at the hospital.  Both tasted horrible.  Now that I'm home I'm having some crystal lite with protein powder and it tastes much better.  I'm a little worried about getting dehydrated because after only a few sips I feel overly full.  I'm hoping the stomach swelling goes down soon so drinking won't be such a chore.

It was weird to see the barium swallow test and watch the medication go down.  My esophagus looked huge compared to my stomach. Esophagus looked like a hot dog and my stomach looked like a string of spaghetti on the screen.
