Hello I am Jen. I am 32 and have been overweight most of my life. I think everything started to unravel for me around 30. Before my birthday I had gone from just having a little acid reflux and high blood pressure to having diabetes, high chorlesterol, and to top it off I was having problems having children. For the first time in years, I started to eat right, exercise and live healthy.
It worked....for about a year and a half. I lost over 50 pounds, had diabetes under control, and felt great. Then I started to think one sweet won't hurt, I got everything under control so quickly so it won't be a big deal. Oh it was a big deal all right. I gained all the weight back and now I am at my highest weight ever-326lbs.
So why am I hear two years later? I was looking in my hand one morning and I had a colored pill for every color in the rainbow. Then a thought came to mind - I am only 32 and I take 12 pills every morning. You heard me right, 12. I thought if I am taking this many now, by the time I am 62 I will probably not be here.
That started my journey to weight loss surgery. I started to look around in Dayton, Ohio where I live and speaking to friends. I tried to meet with some doctors in Dayton but one retired, one had weird office hours, etc. Then I found out about Dr. Trace Curry. He is a proctor for the lap band company and everyone in Dayton has learned from Dr. Curry. So for the past three months or so I have been doing the insurance work to apply for surgery. (Thank God they cover this!) This week (August 29, 2007) I am submitting to insurance for approval of the lap band surgery. I am excited and scared at the same time. Wish me luck!
