Going Vegan One Coffee At A Time

Feb 21, 2012

Decided to go vegan.

Main concern will be dairy replacements and getting the proper amounts of protein in everyday.

I bought a nondairy coffee creamer - we'll see how that goes.

in 2011 I stopped all artificial sweeteners which was really tough being a RNY patient.
everything has artificial sweetener in it.

It was difficult at first to get off the artificial sweeteners but now its much easier.

Lunch was tabbouleh, hummus, tahini, falafel and a pita.  I've never had tabbouleh before and it was really great.

Are you a vegan or vegetarian?
What do you eat?

Getting off artificial sweeteners.

Mar 24, 2011

Been noticing that I eat more sugar free products versus my protein and also started a new habit of decaf coffee w/ 4 sp*endas at least three times a day.  It started to feel like my old routine "before" surgery of food addiction.

Did some research on sp*enda and found out it does create negative side effects.

Today's the 2nd day being off sweeteners.  Really weird to drink coffee without a sweetener in it.

Do you use artificial sweetener or are you off?  Any suggestions for recipes that do not contain artificial sweetener?

Thanks,
Kerry

What's your favorite protein bar & why?

Sep 19, 2010

Looking for new protein bar suggestions.   They are the perfect food to store in my purse or at work when I am on the go but I've been getting tired of the ones I've been eating.

I love peanut butter and chocolate flavors.

Ones I like:
Tiger's Milk Peanut Butter: 6 grams protein and 13 grams sugar - love the taste but not high in protein.
Kashi Roll (caramel) its "gooey" not high in protein though(12g protein & 14 g sugar)
Pure protein bars (choc pb)20 grams protein & 2g sugar - meets my nutritional requirements but doesn't taste that great

Physical setbacks

Jul 19, 2010

I injured my back last week due to overuse.  I have a bad back anyways.

I am getting better - less pain and stifness these days.

I started running and I know doing something new takes time for my body to adjust.  Right now I am not going to run anymore and start with low impact workouts (spin, power walk, weight training).

I'm lucky because I have a great physical therapist and friends who are helping me to get back into exercising again.

Anyone else have physical aches/pains and are trying to get back into exercising?

Couch to 5k - anyone else doing this?

Jun 22, 2010

I started the couch to 5k today.

Anyone else doing this?

Walking speed is 3.7
Running speed is 4.3

Better than I thought it was going to be.

Would like to do a run/walk 5k race in October.

Good medical news!

Jun 21, 2010

I met with my Kidney doctor today and all tests came back saying my kidneys were healthy!

Before surgery I had kidney problems.

I was resigned to having these problems indefinitely.  I figured the WLS would prevent kidney problems from progressing but I never imagined it would relieve all the load on my kidneys.  It's amazing and I'm so grateful.

Onederland! Wow it is beautiful here!

May 05, 2010

I made it to onederland today!  This is a major milestone for me.

I haven't been under 200 pounds since 1999!

I really need to update my profile picture.

What did you do to celebrate onederland?  I really need to mark this occasion by doing something special.

almost 60 gone - next goal get to 199

Apr 29, 2010

I've lost almost 60 pounds and am 3 pounds away from getting to my next major milestone of 199.

Haven't been 199 in 10 years!

Here are some of the positive changes going on:

I've had some major stress and couldn't binge instead I work out. I sound like a crazy woman but its true.

I read now. When I graduated from college I was so burnt out from reading that I haven't opened up a book in years.

I volunteer now.

I booked 4 family camping trips this year.

I feel like I was let out of prison. The extra weight on me imprisoned me.

I move more.

Seat Victory

Apr 19, 2010

I love Fenway Park but couldn't fit in their seats.  I remember being there 8 years ago and barely able to sit in a seat.  My hips got bruise marks because I couldn't fit.  I felt ashamed, depressed and abnormal.

I took my boys to Fenway Park yesterday and sat down with room.  Wow!  This was my seat victory!

I avoided flying also because I couldn't fit in airline seats - I have no flights booked yet but feel like I have less excuses now to do things.

donut advertising

Apr 08, 2010

I was waiting in line early this morning for my decaf and was looking at the names of the donuts...."springtime rain" "bowtie" "boston cream".

They sound so beautiful.

I wish their name would match up to what they would do to your body.

"Spring Stroke"
"Boston Clogger"
