I did it - quadricep stretch!

Mar 15, 2010

Every time in my exercise class when it came time to do the standing quadricep stretch I would do something else.  The extra weight would prevent me from lifting my leg up.

After surgery and after losing weight I tried it today and was able to do it.

My body would get in my own way and now I can do this stretch.  It's awesome.

shoes: either my feet are shrinking or my shoes are growing

Mar 10, 2010

I've lost 43 pounds so far and when I put on my size 10 shoes - they are loose.

Am I imagining this?  Did this happen to you?

trying new foods

Mar 01, 2010

My tastes have definitely changed.  My old favorite meal was chicken parmesan with 4 cups of pasta.  Now I really like foods that don't hurt when you eat them.

The frozen Kashi dinners have been great.  The portion size is still too big so I store half of it.
No dumping or problems with the Sweet & Sour Chicken or Chicken Curry.  Delicious high protein meals.
Great to bring to work.  I was worried with the spices in the chicken curry but had no problems.  I love spicy food.

Also drank OJ and was worried that the 26grams of sugar would cause dumping but it did not.  I was drinking it with my iron pills.

18 is my new lucky number!

Feb 17, 2010

My pants were getting really loose in the past few weeks so I bought a few pairs of 20's.  I decided I needed more 20's and went shopping.  The 20's at the store were loose.  I decided to try on an 18.

It fit.

So I double checked the tag inside the pants to make sure it was an 18.

It was.

I am an 18.

I haven't been an 18 in over 10 years.  I was a 24 on the day of my surgery 12/8/09.

This has been a major milestone for me.  I am so grateful to be here.

protein & liquids

Feb 11, 2010

Been struggling to get in fluids and protein.

Met w/ my nutritionist this week.  I have been getting dizzy spells due to dehydration.  I am now bumping up my protein shakes w/whey isolate protein and sipping water all day long.

I have been back to the gym for the past month.

I cooked quinoa this week and have it with hamburger & sauce.  Been in a food rut where I'm not really interested in any of the old standbys.

Any good recipes out there?

hitting the gym

Jan 03, 2010

I've been walking the malls for 15 to 40 minutes at a time but haven't been on a treadmill since my surgery 12/8.

Today I walked for 60 minutes - not my usual speed of 3.0 but maintained a good pace at 2.5 mph

it feels good to get back into the swing of things.

new meaning to Christmas now

Dec 26, 2009

Christmas used to mean presents and food.

I have a new meaning to Christmas now.

It's about being grateful, having fun and giving.

This past Christmas was my first one after my RNY surgery 12/8/09 and it was so special.

The kids opened presents and then we watched the kids go sledding with family.  My husband did all the heavy lifting since my abdomen is still healing.  After sledding we went to my cousin's house where the kids played and the adults were able to talk.

It has to be one of the best holidays I've had in a long, long time.  I didn't feel sick from overeating or tired.
I felt rejuvenated.

2 weeks post-op RNY

Dec 21, 2009

My RNY surgery was 2 weeks ago.

I have been approved today to move on to Tuft's "Stage 4" foods which are moist/soft proteins.

My first protein on this stage was 3 oz of baked haddock.  I followed the Hospital's recommended recipe for baked haddock.  Oil & spices with sliced lemon.  I wrapped it in parchment paper to keep it moist and served it with fat free yogurt.

It was great.

It took me an hour to eat.

Fish is the best buy for your protein buck.  23 grams per 3 oz serving.

It helps to track your protein and liquid intake and I've been noticing on the days that I don't meet my 50-60 grams of protein I"m feeling tired.

How is everyone else doing?

6 days post op RNY

Dec 13, 2009

RNY surgery on 12/8 went fine.  Found it difficult to get rest in the hospital.  The tip on getting a pillow for your belly was priceless.  I used it in the car ride home from the hospital and it was AWESOME.  I also used a pillow when I had to walk around or sneeze.

The most pain I had right after surgery was the gas they used for the laproscopic procedure and to get rid of it - you had to walk. They blow a ton of gas inside of your body in order to preform the surgery - downside is you feel it right after.

They kept giving me more pain meds but it wasn't going away until I walked which was 2 hrs after surgery and i really felt better.

Today I'm 6 days post op and am following my food list for this week.  I really have an increased sense of smell and yes my tastes have changed dramatically.  I love chicken broth!
