I was one of the original members (since 2000) and excitedly posted every month recording my success and weightloss and tummy tuck.

What I didn't know then was how the effect that malabsorption from the Roux-en-Y and how it affects your mental health and sense of well-being.   I do not regret having the surgery and feel great now.  But it was a difficult 7 years and I paid a hefty price.

I will try and post my story, but I have it on a separate geocities personal page. - [Note - geocities was taken down so I have started a blog]

Primarily it discusses the affect this surgery has on "addiction transfer" which is a term I hate.  It isn't addiction transfer.  It's a result of chronic malnutrition, which can be avoided.   I just don't believe the doctors knew the result.  My grandmother had the surgery back in the 1980's and went through this same thing (it manifested itself in depression and panic attacks which she never had before).  As many have done, she attributed it to her current life situation (we all have issues, but how come these things happen after surgery and not before.

I am not against this surgery and I feel great about my health and body and have learned so much about nutrition, health, life, judgment.  But I think much pain can be avoided if the effects of malabsorption and discussed and managed prior to surgery.
