Another holiday down

Jan 04, 2008

WHEW, made it past another one. Had half a glass of fruity wine New Years Eve and a bunch of steamed shrimp. No harm done. Christmas was harder. My dad sends Honey Bell oranges from Florida that are to die for. I'm giving them away at work. I've eaten some chocolate chip cookies, probably too many. Several parties and I was good for the most part with small tastes. I give myself a B- overall.

Now for the good news. Am now exercising regularly. The Lifecycle is front and center in front of the new TV. I can play video games while riding to ease the boredom. Other good news, since my high of 463 lbs last April, I've dropped a hundred pounds. About 80 since the surgery 3.5 months ago. Energy level is up, clothes are falling off me.  Happy New Year!

3 Month check up, Christmas, and Cholesterol

Dec 05, 2007

Almost hard to believe its been almost three months. Saw Dr Moei yesterday and had bloodwork last week. Sugar was back down thankfully. Was told my HDL- the good cholesterol- was a little low. Looked up how to increase it. Drink alcohol and eat fish! I can do that! Oh, and exercise. I knew it was too good to be true. Still struggling there, but the HDL stuff spooks me. They say it scrubs the inside of the arteries clear of the LDL.

Holiday party was fun even with the snow. Rose has a choir under her tutelage and it was their first public performance. We all sang the Twelve Days of Christmas under Dr. DVR's guidance, and caught up with friends.

Steps are getting easier, in and outs of cars easier, zipped the leather coat- YEAAAA !  Down just under 73 pounds

Whew, made it past Thanksgiving

Nov 23, 2007

I was worried I would gorge, get sick, and not have a good holiday. In fact, I may have worried enough to throw myself onto a plateau of sorts. I didn't lose much since the last blog, about 8 pounds. I find myself grazing to chase off what I perceive as hunger. Sometimes its hard to tell true hunger, but a bite or two chases off the cravings. Just HAVE to get on that Lifecycle per the Doc and stop making excuses. At least its not like I haven't been crazy busy at work. New furniture and bed projects have kept me hopping. Maybe the next several weeks will bring some closure.

For the Thanksgiving meal, I had only a small spoonful of the things I really like. I was still full before I cleaned my plate. Waited a while and then small portions of pie. We ate early, so I found myself hungry again at 10pm. Half and apple chewed to puree and a piece of cheese with meds was very satisfying.  I've now passed the 60 pound point.

Almost 2 months

Nov 05, 2007

Its now just over a week to my two month anniv. Things continue to go well. I can drink fluids with total ease now and only the first time in the morning is there really any sensation. Stomach still has to "wake up." The Bhat Mitzvoh was amazing. The family really went all out with a circus like atmosphere for the reception. I ate most of the strawberries off the fruit and cheese tables, a small piece of turkey and a few pieces of cheese throughout the evening. Temptation finally drove me to a fresh fruit "tart" of some kind that wasn't the best choice. I had some pain for an hour or so, but it eased.

My head still tends to tell me to take bigger portions than I can consume sometimes, the dog is loving life.  I am down just over 52 pounds since the surgery and close to 70 pounds from my high.

Food food food

Oct 23, 2007

Its now going into week 6 and I can still report good things. This past weekend I was asked to cook for a friend of mine. I am no chef, but consider my outdoor grill skills above average. I planned deep fried turkey and a slow cooked eye round to go along with a table full of appetizers, sweets, and vegetable dishes. I ate a small slice of a turkey wrap, the kind you just thaw and serve, and it just sat in my pouch. After waiting more than 30 mins to drink, it just sat there keeping me full. There was a little discomfort, but I used it as motivation not to try any of the sweets. The old me would have caved to the pb cookies, but I didn't. Later, I did try a piece of sugar free chocolate cake- the only sf thing there brought by another wls patient- but forgot the sf preserves that were to go with the cake so it wasn't the best.

Sunday we met some of the other wls peeps from the site at Webers. Wish we could have stayed longer, they are a fun group.

There will be another test next weekend. Bar Mitzvoh Saturday with all the trimmings. Less worried now.

I am down 43 pounds

Stubbed my toe

Oct 11, 2007

Its been a few since I posted. The scale sits right outside the bathroom and I confess to stubbing my toe several times. The glass top is stylish but hard to see. Maybe I'll draw on it with a marker. I am down just over 35 pounds.

This has been a busy week. Monday I woke up normally, but soon after meds and some Propel there was stomach pain. Walking didn't help. Went to work and things began to build into true discomfort. I began to sweat like a pig even though the air was cool. Finally called the doctors office and they told me to come right in. Driving was fun. With each bump in the road it hurt. I was thinking something was stuck, but what? Anyway, Dr. Moei did an examination of my abdomen with some massage like movements and when I sat up there was immediate relief. Taking the safe road, it was still decided to do an x-ray, take blood samples, which then melded to an ultra sound over at the ER. They were busy and it took quite awhile. Eventually, I was released. They think I either dumped- due to the symptoms- or maybe an obstruction. I've been fine all week since.

Validation

Oct 02, 2007

Today the digital scale arrived. I found myself eager to get it set up and jump on. Talk about a first, scales were things to be avoided in the past. Well, after breakfast and a mid morning protein shake and a bottle of Propel I was still down over 22 pounds from surgery. I know we are suppose to weigh in first thing in the AM, but I wanted to see. Will take it home tonight.

Two week anniv

Sep 26, 2007

Okay, tomorrow makes 2 weeks and here is what I've learned. It takes from 3-5 minutes for my stomach to establish "full" diplomatic relations with the brain. If I continue to eat during this time there is pain or will be pain. If I stop, there comes this wonderful feeling that is still new to me. I have found myself trying to lock in this feeling so it can be quickly recognized as a full stomach instead of  stuffed.  Remembering all the other things I am suppose to do is getting easier and I am once again sleeping well. There have been some comments I look different, but I've decided to just ride the weight loss wave as long as I can. Clothing certainly isn't falling off of me.

Still on track

Sep 24, 2007

The weekend was short since the shop is now open on Saturdays, but I had enough energy to do chores AND shampoo the carpets. Sunday I just vegged with the Ravens pretty much. This week I'll look for a scale. Walking more and more.

One week out

Sep 20, 2007

Still good news. Stitches aren't being embraced by my skin so some irritation that should pass, and the bruises are spreading as they begin to fade. Looks gross but little pain. Dr. Moei says all going to plan and the drain is out. Down 16 pounds. Maybe its time to finally struggle though making a ticker.
