Home After Surgery

Jun 09, 2009

Well, it was a week today that I had my surgery (RNY).

The surgery took 3 hours because I have a large liver and it kept getting in the way. I was in the hospital until the Saturday because I had low blood pressure and low potassium. BTW potassium runs in IVs hurt like hell. I also had a problem peeing in that I couldn't. I had to wear a catheter at night and then try to pee during day. If I didn't the catheter was put back in for the night. They finally let me out on the Saturday but with a catheter and bag and told to go to doctor's office on the Monday.

On Monday my blood pressure was back to normal, yeah. When they weighed me I had gained 15lbs but they said not to worry and that it was due to all the fluids they were pumping into me into the hospital and once I started peeing it would drop away. They removed the catheter and said I was able to go home but if I didn't pee within 8 hours I was to go to the nearest emergency room. Thankfully I peed. I have never been so happy to do so. My mum and sister and I did a little dance.

I'm home now and feeling great. No hunger pains, no vomiting or nausea. I am following the diet given to the T. What I do miss is the taste of things. Right now the diet is very plain and tasteless.  I am also finding now that I am home alone the non-hungry bored part of me wants to eat. Guess this is something I have to start dealing with.
