My story....Wow where do I start? I have been heavy since I was about 6 years old. I was always the heaviest girl in my classes. But that never really bothered me until I was in the 6th grade and I started noticing boys and well they didn't notice me back. Of course that is except when they wnat to make fun of me or tease me. I didn't let it bother me because I remained active and was involved in school activities like student government and drill team in Jr High and High School.
After high school and well into adulthood I was always up and down with my weight trying every different diet and program that came along I would lose the wieght but gain it right back plus some. I even did Phen-fen! Yikes!! I had gestational diabetes with both of my pregnancies which put me at a high risk of develpoping type II diabetes later in life if I didn't control my weight. Well the weight control didn't happen and by the time my daughter was 2 years old I was diagnosed with diabetes. The timing couldn't have been worse, I was going through so much else in my life at that time and that I didn't really care fo myself properly. The stress of being a single mom caused my weight to jump dramaticaly and my sugars to jump too! By my birthday in May of 2009 I was totaly maxed out on the levels of oral meds, my next step insulin. Not good for someone who has a needle phobia. Finally my new primary care doctor referred me into the Options program at Kaiser.
My first Options class was in October of 2009 and I was in one of the last of the 20 week classes. I finally graduated my ptions program in March of 2010, but still had a road ahead of me to have my surgery since I had to bring A1C down to at least a 7.5. It took me an extra 3 months after my classes but I finally did it and was reffered to the surgeons!! I chose Pacific Bariatric because after doing my research I found that they were in the top 5 in the nation when it comes to gastric surgey, and if I'm gonna do this I'm going to go with the best available to me.
