12 days out!!

Jan 30, 2011

Well here I am 12 days out from having my surgery.  Looking back at the last 12 days has been amazing to me and I still wonder how I've done it.  I have never been one to have a lot of will power and the last 12 days have been all about will power and doing what I need to do to be successful.

The five days while in the hospital were quite hard and pain full.  When I say that the little friend happy button was my best friend, I am not kidding.  Especially the first 2 days!!!  My surgeon had a little issues when removing my gall bladder, apparently my stones had become so large that he had to cut the muscle to remove it.  That was the incision that has caused me the most pain, especially since I am a side sleeper and that is my preferred side.  On the 3rd day I decided to try the jello that hospital had to offer. BIG MISTAKE!!  My new tummy did not like it at all and made me extremely nauseous.  the first medecine they gave me did not do a darn thing, so they had to call for a 2nd stronger medecine.  By the time the pharmacy  sent that up I had developed a fever.  BOO!!  Since as bariatric patients we are not allowed to take anything by mouth at that point, you can only guess which way the Tylenol had to go in! NO FUN!!  Well thanks to the jello and my fever I bought an extra day in the hospital, which was both good and bad.  Good in that I got an extra day to rest, bad in that I was ready to go home.  The drive home on Saturday from San Diego to LA was not bad at all.  I napped off and on the whole way, but believe me when I say a small pillow for your tummy is a good idea.

My family had been very supportive and of course very watchfull worrying at every little complaint I may make. My kids have helped pick up the slack and don't let lift a thing.  But everyone does make sure that I walk and move around, and I am glad that they do.  Movement and exercise have helped a lot.  They only complaint that I have since my surgery is that my sense of smell is so completely heightened it's crazy. I never had an issue with odors and now it seems that every smell overwhelms me.  Kinda weird!

I have started to notice subltle changes in my face and neck area already.  I never thought I would notice changes so quickly!  My family sees all my changes and are so excited to see that the surgery was really worth the pain and the LONG wait.  I had my one week follow up on Thursday the 27th of January and have lost a total 13.6lbs so far.  WOW!!!  In only 9 days that seems almost like a miracle to me.  I don't remember the last time I saw the scale read 231.

I have 2 more days of liquids and then I get to venture into the world of soft foods on Tuesday.  I'm both aexcited and anxious at the same time about that.  I love that I have lost so much on liquids and am scared to start putting more into my system.  But I keep telling myself discipline, discipline, discipline!!  I'll let you know how that first day goes on my next post.
