Hi everyone - it's Aug 2008 and I'm new to the site. I'm a 49 yr old guy living south of Ottawa and I'm a patient of the Dr. Dent program at the Ottawa Hospital. Have been through the Optifast program with 100+ pound weight loss in 12 weeks at age 46 (never felt better as an adult) and re-gained it all within 2 years back to original weight. Did the program partially a second time, last year, lost 50 pounds and again right back to the exact original weight in a year. Frustrating needless to say... I'm pretty healthy otherwise, good blood results and so on.
Have now been approved by OHIP for RNY through Dr. Graber, and their office has just called to book my first app't. Would like to talk with anyone who's been through this whole process, find out how it all went, and words of advice. I'm an RN so I'm familiar with surgery and so on - I'm more interested in the overall experience, pitfalls, things to watch out for, etc. I'm still pretty anxious about all this, making the final decision and so on - so hearing successful outcomes would be encouraging. I need to lose basically half my weight, so of course I'm hoping this will work.
