I am a 29yo single mother of 3. I have tried almost every diet plan, pill and drink on the market, and after years of yo-yo dieting, I finally decided that I wanted to make a permanent change in my appearance. I had an alternate method in mind, but after hearing how well my sister (Lady A) was doing after her surgery, I decided to do a little more research on the subject of WLS. After I spent some time reading and checking out different aspects of the WLS, I consulted with my PCP and then went to a seminar at St. Agnes Hospital. At the seminar, I met Cathy Carr-Younger R.N. who led the seminar. She was 4 years post-op and the sheer joy in her voice added to my anticipation. I also met Arlene Swantko R.D., L.D. who is the preffered dietician of the St.Agnes WLS team. She discussed dietary changes and habits and answered questions we had about food habits. Also in attendance was a fellow by the name of Dave who was 5 months post-op and he shared his experience with the surgery and the likes. I have a lot of support from family, friends and co-workers, although ther are the people who say"Oh you are fine just a bit chubby" or they say "Your height hides the weight very well." But it's what the girdles and the full body stockings hide that they can't see that's the problem. So after leaving the seminar on Last Saturday, I gathered as much information as I could over the weekend and made up my mind to do it. Then at 9:00 a.m. this morning I called the offices of Dr.Andrew Averbach & Dr. Kuldeep Singh, and left a message on the machine. Within 10 minutes I got a return call from Teresa who apologized for missing my call and then began taking down some information. About 6 minutes later I was given an appointment with Dr. Averbach for April 2, 2004. I made it known that I had all of my information prepared, Medical records, diet and exercise programs, appointment for my psych evaluation and appt with the dietician all ready to go. So she placed me on another list that would get me in sooner if someone cancels or fails to show. As for my insurance company...I have Blue Cross and Blue Shield through my employer (The State of MD), and it is a covered benefit on my plan. I spoke with a representative on today and after we went over all of the paper work I already had, she said that preliminarily....there was no reasons why it would be denied when it is submitted because I have shown medical and physical reasons beyond a doubt. So now I just wait .
