11 days post-op

Sep 25, 2009

Well here it is: my first post. I will start at the beginning...

I have flip-flopped back and forth over the last 2.5 years about whether or not to have weight loss surgery. My mother went through the process 6 years ago and is in the best shape of her life, and even after going through the process with her, I still struggled with the decision. When I realized that I couldn't walk for 5 minutes on a flat stretch of road without becoming short of breath, I knew it was time to start the process.

In April of 2009, I called my mom's surgeon's office and scheduled my first appointment for later that month. When they weighed me, I had reached an all-time high of 378... Keep in mind the last time I weighed myself, I was 214. That was 5 years ago. Seeing that number only motivated me to start the pre-op required steps that much sooner. I finished all of my prerequisites on June 3, 2009, and my insurance approved the surgery on July 14, 2009.

In the beginning of August, I started my pre-op weight loss plan. I had six weeks before surgery... Dr. Ganser told me that my pre-surgery weight loss goal was 20-25 lbs, and when I weighed in for my pre-op appointment, I had lost 50! I was so proud of myself.

I lost another 10 in the week following, weighing in at 319 on the day of surgery. My surgery went really smoothly; I spent two nights in the hospital because I was having a lot of dizziness whenever I tried to stand up. I am 11 days post-op now, and had my first post-op appointment yesterday, and I weighed in at 305, bringing my grand total to 73! I am so happy and proud of myself, and I can't wait to see where I go from here. :)
