3 Months Post-Op

Jun 21, 2012

Well, today marks 3 months since my new life began.
My Stats...... Down 78.6 lbs, I have dropped 12inches on my hips, 9 inches on my waist and I can start to see the difference between my before and now pictures...My pants were anywhere from size 26-28 at the start and now I am confortable in a 20. I like that!! No where near my goal but inching closer every week.

I started a learn to run program on my own, it's an app for my phone and I really like it. Today I woke up at 5:30 to go for my run before  a) it got to hot, b) all the kids woke up c) I decided I was too tired to do it later....
I haven't made it to my beloved Zumba this week due to changing up the household routine.... NEXT WEEK FOR SURE!!!!!

It has been an emotionally draining week and I think if I can survive this I can survive almost anything..... I still have all the support of family and friends, no one has shown me any jealousy or whatnot and I really appreciate that...It helps...

Half way to goal!!

Jun 06, 2012

I am 9.5 weeks out, and over half way to the clinic's goal for me of 190lbs. YAHOOOO!!!!
I, on the other hand, want a lower goal of 165-170lbs. If I get to make it to 165 that will have been a 200lb loss from my highest ever weight.(in 2006) I read blogs, posts and feel encoraged that I too can get there!!! The "big bones" excuse can't cut it forever!
At my last weigh in on Friday June 1/12 I was 256lbs..... I cannot remember the scale at that weight...unless I was leaning on something!!!!

It feels good! I am closer to a goal I have set for myself.... I decided that when I reach 250lbs, I will try a "couch to 5k" run..... This should be interesting!!! But I will do it!! Might take a long time to get to the 5k goal but I know a few friends that will push me along!! Another goal I have is to be able to buy Zumba clothes.... I love the workout and really would like to have a pair of the pants....  Oh, I have many, many goals......

Goals I have achieved since March 2012:
1)to weigh less than 300lbs...- did that shortly after surgery
2)to shop in a "regular size" clothing store- did that in May.
3)to cross my legs - done :)
4)to clear out my closet of anything bigger than a 24- done (and those will be gone soon too!)
5)to get back into exercise - taking zumba 2-3 times a week and walking and biking too!

I have LOADS of energy!!!!!

YAY for RNY!!!!

OMG I am 40!!!

Apr 18, 2012

April 12/12 came and went....I was still at home after surgery and had a nice quiet day. Sat out is the sun, read my book, took a long walk.... My wonderful daughter brought home a beautiful bouquet of flowers after school and my hunny gave me a nice gift too .

I was 20 days post op and had to get on the scale just to see.... Wowzers!!! 50lbs down!Personally, I thought that was a GREAT gift!!! I  my RNY!!!  I think it has been over 20 years since seeing this weight on the scale...
In all honesty I am 40 now but feel so much better than I did at 30!! I think I even look much better.
I am still not used to getting compliments, hearing a few of them lately...  YAY!!

week 1 on the bench!!

Mar 30, 2012

So, I will admit I didn't really have any nerves a week ago. I was brought to the hospital by my close friend and neighbour, she sat with me until  I was called to go down to the OR. I had complete trust in the team...still do.... I walked into the operating room and got on the weird looking table.... they gave me the sleepy juice and I was out like a light!!
I remember getting poked, prodded, stuck with needles in the PACU... Nurse Angie was terrific!
Be seriously.... they thought I was well enough to walk from the stretcher to my bed!! ok it was only about a 6 foot distance but I was still having a hard time keeping my eyes open!!!! So very gingerly, they had me sit on the edge of the bed.... apparently my eyes did something pretty weird because they had me sit there for a while to get used to being vertical!! shuffle shuffle shuffle and voila! I made it to my new bed. I think I stayed awake for about 10 minutes and managed to sleep. Around 9:30 I got up for the washroom, back to bed and out for the night!!!

During my 2 night stay, I had 2 terrific nurses, Yvette and Krista. I met a few fellow WLS'ers, went for some pretty good walks, had a few reactions to the Anacef meds.... apparently if I ever need that stuff again it has to be hung "IV" style and dripped over 30 mins.... the 5 minute push into my little hand IV tube was too much for me.

My good friend sprung me out around noon on Sunday, we went to a local pharmacy for my "drugs" lol
and then I was homeward bound. I was walking well, really hadn't tooted much but was feeling pretty good.

Day 1 at home was not too bad but Tuesday was terrible! I called the clinic, heard back from them by mid afternoon  and spent about 20-25 minutes going over things with the nurse. Basically, a lot of pain, the Dilotid wasn't helping that much. The nurse felt it was mostly due to the gas as my tummy was still soooo full!!!

Each day has since gotten better, I am venturing out and trying new things. Cottage cheese is soooooo tasty!!!! LOL
One major problem I have is protein. The smell and taste just turns my stomach. So at the Bulk Barn I found this one that mixes with water and is supposed to taste like a "sports drink". I mixed it up for the first time this morning and haven't had any yet because the smell was "whey" nasty! So I was thinking about freezing some and pour the rest over it to make a slushie. So I will give that a shot shortly.

As far as the scale goes, I was a little scale obsessed this week, stepped on it almost every day..... So I have to stop that!!!! From now on, only once a week...Fridays to coincide with my surgery date. The loss has been pretty good. From hospital weight to today, I have lost 14 lbs.-1 week  WOW!

Lets hope it continues on downward, I have 100 lbs to go.

2 MORE DAYS AND 6 MORE SHAKES!!!!!

Mar 21, 2012

Honestly the shakes haven't been an issue.... I have really enjoyed the Chocolate and the Vanilla well..... it needed a little help...luckily I worked it so there was only 1 of those a day - so smart!! lol
Tomorrow I should be getting the call confirming the time for surgery.... Diabetics first.... well, that is not me.... so I will probably be later in the day... My fabulous neighbor is driving me to Ottawa.... My BF is staying home and looking after the kids.... I just hope that I don't have any complications and will come home on schedule...Sunday morning.... I know he will be happy!! He is already not looking forward to 2 nights alone...
I am running through all the things I will want with me.....my phone.... make up!! lol but what else?!?! Ideas anyone??

The 23rd is coming fast!!!

Mar 18, 2012

So today is Monday...Friday is my surgery!!! It almost seems unreal! I am excited and soooo looking forward to it....(a little scared too)

Since starting Optifast I have lost 20 lbs but not done yet.... Some NSV's I have experienced in the 2.5 weeks.... I put on a pair of jeans I haven't managed to squeeze into in 2 years.... Saturday I figured, why not try them just to see.... I figured I would lay on the bed and try the zipper..... My to my amazement.... They slid up and the zipper was easy to pull up while standing!!! I didn't even have to suck in my tummy!!!Yippee!!!! This morning I put on my grey dress pants for work.... Last week they were snug on my hips....Today, they hang!!OMG!!!! AND....I have reached one of my goals!!!!!! I now weigh less than 300lbs!! WOOOHOOOOOO!!!!! this calls for another happy dance!!!
This is gonna be a GREAT week!!!!

approved!

Feb 21, 2012

So, this morning I was up at 5:00 to get to Ottawa for my appointment...ok...It's not like I needed 3 hours to get ready.... I was excited!
My boyfriend and I left by 6:45 and arrived WAY early! Luckily this gave us enough time to hit Tim's for a tea. I didn't really care for the tea but i wanted a roll up... and I WON!!!! a freakin' donut..... anyone want it?!?! LOL

So we met with Dr. Yelle, very nice and made me feel at ease. I have been approved and have no health factors against me except my weight...no diabetes, no sleep apnea, no high blood pressure.... So..... GREEN light!!!
He talked about all the risks and answered all my questions before i could ask them! I didn't leave with a surgery date but was told to expect a call in a day or 2.
I picked up the Optifast and got mostly chocolate based on what I have read about the vanilla, but I still got some anyway so I can play with the flavors.....How much weight can I hope to lose while taking Optifast? I guess that could have been something to ask! DUH.... So anyone out there know?!

Man am I happy! My birthday is in.......7 weeks....the big 4-0...... the number doesn't scare me.... sure I have noticed a lot of changes lately.... the face is a little more wrinkled, the eyes are fuzzier than usual, and well, the knees.... they have been complaining for a while but now I hear them loud and clear..... With this surgery I am looking forward to the next 40 years.... (and more)

another step closer....

Feb 11, 2012

Let's just say January 2012 wasn't good to me..... I slipped on some ice, damaged my knee and ankle....5 days later diagnosed with pneumonia, 4 days off work, (I only have 6 sick days for the year) and now that February has begun, it seems to be gettting better!

February 1st, I went to Ottawa for my education class. Since then I have been doing my best to journal my days.... They say it will help double my success for weight maintenance after surgery.

Feb 10th, I had to have a scope. Drove....well not me... had to have a friend bring me....over an hour for what turned out to be a 5 minute procedure only to find out all is good in the stomach area.... YAY!

So now the next step in this year long journey is meeting with the surgeon on February 21st. Hopefully, I will be given a surgery date that isn't too far off.... When Iasked at the education session, we were told it could be anywhere from a month to nine months after meeting the surgeon.....  Does this seem like a long time to anyone else?

I am looking forward to having the surgery but soooo scared at the same time. I have noticed in the last 2 months that my knees are sore most of the time. When i went for xrays after the "ice incedent" i wastold they found arthritis on the knee.... well, no surprise really, I have been carrying around so much extra weight for so long that things were bound to start complaining!!
I will be turning 40 in..... let's see.....2 months today.... I really want to be on the right track by then. I wanted to be 40 and flabless lol, but i will be happy with 40 and on the right track!

I finally managed to upload a picture, still not brave enought to put a full body shot on here. The only one I have is summer 2010 I went depelling in New Brunswick.... (walked down a 14 storey cliff face first.) -Still can't beleive i did it! Perhaps this is the best place to show that photo..... I will see about that!
Well, time to go, we are taking the kids sledding this morning.
So, lets hope the next time i login it will be with a surgery date
