Month 9

Mar 28, 2007

So Month 9 was INTERESTING.
I started working out with a trainer at school 2-3 a week and doing cardio as homework another 2-3 days per week.
I also went for a 2 hour hike at Harriman State Park in upstate NY. I am so sore but I did it!
Despite all this I have only lost 1 lb. We will see what happens. Toning up would be good.

Labs are good, just a bit anemic.

Bad things this month: I broke my finger and my dog passed away.

Size 8

Feb 24, 2007

Today I am wearing size 8 pants!
It is a miracle.

Thoughts at 7.5 months out

Random questions
1)
I am getting close to my own very conservatively set goal weight of 160 lbs so I am curious
How did you pick your goal weight? Was there a higher weight at which, if your body had stopped losing, you would have still been happy and considered yourself a success?
I am 7.5 months out and losing about 5-8 lbs a month, how much more would you guess I have to lose unless I drastically increase my carbs/calories? I also am adding more exercise every week.

I am getting very close to my original personal goal of 160 and starting to wonder if I should actively try and lose more? I don't think I could stop losing now if I tried, but I am wondering how strict should I remain on low carb?

I am NOT TINY and many thin people might still think of me as chunky, but I FEEL amazing and I am so HAPPY with where I am.

I am about 166 now and 5'4.5. I am a size 10/12 or a M/L on top and a 12 on bottom. However I feel like I look really normal sized. My chest is perfect the size it is, but I am not sure I want to lose more there. Just rambling I guess, but what do you all think (I am about 15 lbs smaller than in my christmas pictures on my OH profile). I am also thinking that I may want some plastics in the future which I have heard takes off more weight?

2) Totally unrelated to WLS, I have the opportunity to work anywhere in the country when I graduate. I am from NJ and all my family is there, so that is the top contender right now.
But I have always wanted to live on a farm (would need to be commuting distance to a city with a legal market) and I would want to stay on the east coast probably and I would want to go south rather than north. Any suggestions or opinions on where you live?

3) how did WLS change your dating or relationship patterns?
I have no dating history. I was overweight my whole life and shy.  I guess that combination was the reason. Now I feel like I look great and I am hearing that very often, yet not a single guy has expressed any interest. I am no longer anywhere near as shy and I have made many great friends at school, but none are guys and I am not comfortable flirting. Any general thoughts or comments on dating would be appreciated.

4) Another random observation -
my ribs stick out so much when I am laying down and my lower stomach is CONCAVE (only when I am laying down). My gosh I never thought I would say that or see that.

5) Great lowcarb finds

Ramblings

I GOT A JOB! I got a firm job for six weeks of the summer. It is less than the traditional 10 weeks because they don't usually hire 1Ls, but I am so exicted! It is very hard to get a paying job your 1L summer, so I am so happy.

I am going out with friends tomorrow to lunch and shopping to celebrate. I am also down to a size 12 jeans . That is the smallest I have ever been since age 10 or 12. The size 12 jeans I wore today (they came in the mail from land's end) were actually already a bit loose. I CAN NOT believe it. My dream goal size I could not even fathom getting to is a size 8 or 10 and I am not that far away. I know some of you who are about my weight are in size 6 (JAIME! yes I am calling your skinny butt out), but honestly I think I look great and can't believe how small I feel in the size 12s. I am a size 10 on top.

I am just now posting some other stuff on my profile blog, so if anyone wants to read more feel free to go there, but I wanted to keep this post totally about the good things that have happened lately and less than epic length.

Despite going really low carb the last two weeks, I had some issues with DHR recently so my Dr. put my on the antibiotic flagyl and it is working great. It is beyond wonderful to sleep through the night again (I had been getting up SO many times). So good news on that too!

Labs Back

Dec 03, 2006

I got my latest set of labs back and most things look good.
My calcium is a bit low so I will work on that and I am a little anemic but my PCP is not worried about that. My triglycerides are still too high. But everything else looks good.

Month 5 Weigh In

Nov 18, 2006

Loss for month 5 = 12 lbs
From 193 to 181

And I only had to spend 4 days in the hospital on IV fluids only to do it!

Joking aside, I am very pleased with this month's loss.

I have a Stricture

Nov 14, 2006

First an update on my aunt MaryC -
She had her the first part of her DS today with Dr. Inabnet in NYC. She has some health issues which will necessitate that she remain sedated and have a breathing tube until tomorrow so I have not been able to speak to her yet, but I have heard from my cousin who is staying with her that she made it through more quickly than they expected. I would really appreciate continued prayers for her and I know she will post in a few days when she is home.

My Aunt Mary posted yesterday that I had a stricture and was in the hospital. I went to the ER on Sat night because I had been vomiting and was no longer able to keep down water. They treated me for dehydration and then admitted me. I had an Upper GI on Sat morning and they found out that I had a stricture at the duodenal-illeal anasthomosis (sp?) and rapid reflux. The stricture was very small. After considering various options and speaking to my original surgeon, a GI doctor did an endoscopy with dilation this morning, to stretch out the stricture. I am exhausted from being sick for a week and then in the hospital on IV fluids only for days, but I will post more later. I am going back to school on Thurs and I am going to rest and catch up on my work tomorrow. Thank you all for the wonderful get better messages which you posted on my Aunt's thread. You guys are the best!.

Months 3 and 4 Weight Loss Update

Oct 20, 2006

My weight loss for month 3 was 8lbs and for month 4 it was 8 lbs. So I am actually not losing slowly. School was really stressful this week, but I got through it! Now I get to enjoy the weekend.

Still getting sick

Oct 15, 2006

For the last almost two months since my last post I have still been experiencing frequent vomiting. For a while it was most days and sometimes I would throw up black liquid and it would really burn and I would be getting sick for hours and hours. I would be sore and exhausted. Sometimes I had to leave class unexpectedly to get sick. It didn't seem to be caused by any particular food. I tried chewing very slowly, eating less, not drinking when I ate and it didn't improve. After speaking to Dr. Peters again I am back on protonix and reglan. I have been on it for a little over a week. I have thrown up only three times which is less than I had been getting sick; and each time it was only for an hour or two and did not burn or include black liquid, which my surgeon guessed might have been blood. So that is positive, I just wish I wasn't getting sick at all.

It is so frustrating to still be getting sick this far out. I also feel like I am losing slowly the last two months, especially for how sick I have been.  I will weigh-in on Oct 19 and update then and then I will know for sure.

On a more positive note, I am back to tracking my foods on fitday and walking most days for 20-30 min. I started that last week so maybe it will have a positive effect on my weight loss.

2 Month update

Aug 18, 2006

Loss for second month = 11lbs ! I'll take it!
40 lbs lost so far

I also got my labwork back. Everything is mostly good. My liver enzymes are elevated, but I was told that was normal with the surgery. My cholesterol is down from 285 to 163 ! My cholesterol ratios are still bad, but I will try and work on that with exercise. I am off glucophage for insulin resistance, many of my PCOS symptoms are improved, and I am down two pant sizes to a size 18. I am very bootylicious so that is a real accomplishment for me! My stomach has nearly disappeared entirely. I weigh 209 lbs now. My goal weight is 160 so I am almost half way there already. I might want to lose more once I get there, but I have never been that small, so for now, that is my goal.

I leave for law school in a week and I'll be moving to MA. It is also my first time moving away from home and I am kind of worried about it. But my birthday is tomorrow, I am turning 22, so that should be a fun time. I'm sure I'll be on here a lot over the next month to try and distract myself from the nerves.
