I never imagined that I could lose this much weight so quickly while still getting in all my protein, water, vitamins AND having energy! woohooooo!!!! I know it's gotta slow WAY down soon but I'm enjoying it!

today is day 8 and I am now on full liquids THANK YOU JESUS! there's only so much of clear liquids that one woman can take LOL I am down 18 lbs since surgery ( believe it or not I lost NOTHING on the pre op diet! ) and don't even feel like I had surgery except I have these 4 little incisions on my belly that itch and I'm not hungry. The not hungry part is a freaking MIRACLE and a half! As of today I am SO glad I did this!!!

so far so good! I am feeling good and getting all my fluids in as long as I sip sip sip allllllll day long LOL I don't feel hungry at all which is bizarre!
I got back last night from Tijuana where I was sleeved by Dr. Ponce de Leon. I took lots of pics of the whole experience and here's the link for anyone who might want to see them :)

I have decided to go with Dr. Ponce and have scheduled surgery for September 14, 2012 at INT Hospital in Tijuana. I will either have both my parents with me or a good friend.. whoever can get off work LOL I feel VERY confident with this decision but only made it after strongly considering 3 other surgeons, all who are wonderful. What is finally came down to was the coordinators of all things LOL anywho, long story short I chose Dr. Ponce and I am VERY excited. Financing is setting up the contract for me as I type and I've been cleared for take off by my doctor. Out of all of this... making the decision to have surgery, dealing with insurance not covering it, deciding whether to go to Mexico (something you could have never convinced me I'd do and now I can't wait lol), and now choosing a surgeon and taking out a loan to pay for it... out of all that the only thing that really scares me right now is the pre-op diet LOL eek.

I figured I'd ask at work and see how long I'd have to wait to be able to take 10 days off so that I could have surgery.. they told me if I want to be off from September 14-22 that I can! HOLY CRAP! apparently someone else had asked for it off and then recently changed their mind LOL so I took it and figured I can always change my mind later too if it doesn't work out.. still waiting to get my passport in the mail and hear about financing so we'll see... but I was shocked that I was able to get approved for the time off work!!
I keep posting all these little moments here in hopes that one day soon a thinner healthier me will be able to look back and read them and smile

went by the US Post Office today and applied for a passport card so that I can come home from Mexico LOL I found it funny that apparently no one cares if you enter Mexico from the USA but if you try to come back without a passport they won't let you hahahahaha anyhow, I'm one step closer. Have a doctor appt with my primary MD next week and will get an h.pylori test as Dr. Kelly requested. After that it's all about figuring out how to pay the $5500.. which I'm praying about. I am determined to do this and am constantly encouraged by everything I read on here about both the surgery itself and the doctor I've chosen. I am ready for a change.

Just got off the phone with Dr. Kelly and his assistant Omar, what a nice couple of men! I was shocked at how kind Dr. Kelly was and that he really took the time to ask me questions and to answer mine as well. Also this is funny but I was expecting to hear very broken english and he doesn't even have an accent LOL he asked me to get tested for h.pylori since I have a history of acid reflux and also wanted me to make sure I don't have a hernia if possible. Amazing to me because if he was just out to make a buck I don't think he would have me do this stuff.. Anyway I feel VERY comfortable choosing him as my surgeon after that phone call...
Still working on figuring out how to pay for this... Ugh. Still considering taking the risk to finance and cross my fingers that I get enough back on my next tax return to pay it off.. or just bite the bullet and skimp on other things to afford it... I'm just terrified of what my weight is doing to my health and I honestly think it would be worth working overtime to be able to be healthier...it seems like just as some of my questions are answered there are new questions around the corner. It's just too bad I'm not rich... or at it would be nice if I had an extra $5k lying around LOL

So after speaking to my health insurance company and the hospital I work for (I am a nurse) I am convinced that they will not be covering WLS anytime soon.. and even IF they decide to it will probably be covered only partially if done at the hospital I work for.. and they will pay even less if done at another facility. Since it's running $ 19K WITH my "employee discount" I've decided it's time to research other options.
I stumbled upon a few blogs here that were written by patients who'd had VSG in Mexico and shared rave reviews so I decided to research further and until I searched out the "Mexico" forum on here I had no idea there were so many thousands of us going to Mexico every year for surgery!! I've learned that there are many different avenues for surgery in Mexico and so I've stuck to surgeons in TJ (right across the border from San Diego) who operate in hospitals. I live about 2 hrs away from San Diego so I wouldn't even have to find a hotel or airfare and stay in Mexico is included. As an Operating Room RN I was shocked that some of these surgeries are performed in clinics in Mexico.. I would never choose to have surgery anywhere other than a hospital. At this point I think I've narrowed it down to Dr Kelly or Dr Ponce.. both offer VSG for around $5-6k, which I can finance if necessary.. and both have a great track record and specialize in bariatric surgery. I must have read 500 reviews so far LOL I applied for financing and was approved for a loan that would require making payments of around $200+/month for the next couple yrs.. I'm just not sure that's do-able right now so I'm checking into ALL available options. I figure it's worth working an extra shift here and there to pay the bill if it means not being morbidly obese..

well I went to the weight loss surgery meeting tonight with the doctor and already knew for sure that I want to move forward with the surgery but especially after speaking with the surgeon.. then found out that my insurance does not cover weight loss surgery AT ALL... for ANY reason. They also will not even cover ANY weight loss assistance, even in the form of doctor supervised diets! Honestly I think this is completely 100% ridiculous! For God's sake, the very same hospital I WORK for offers this bariatric surgery program that they are so freaking proud of but will not cover this help for their own employees?! LAME.
So, needless to say I am extremely disappointed. I have no idea what my next step could possibly be. I honestly believe I have tried and failed at every stinking other type of weight loss program. This IS my last resort and most promising help. I am awaiting a phone call from the RN who ran the meeting tonight about the possibility of covering this in the future... but only God knows if they'll ever cover it. I know I cannot afford to pay cash.. *sigh*
ok, now I've vented and I'm not gonna let this dampen my hopes for surgery. My entire life to this point has been a series of one miracle after another... so who's to say another miracle might happen for me with this too?
