MY LAST WEEKEND AT THIS WEIGHT

Aug 16, 2009

Wow what a weekend it was. We had a drum corps show in Willowgrove, Pa . It was great seeing all my friends and getting the well wishes and hugs and kisses and encouragement for my upcoming surgery on Thursday. I have the best husband that I could ever ask for too. He is so understanding and wonderfull. I had a few cheating moments which were not bad. Like watermelon and oranges and a hoagie. My last one as a fatty. Today I am back on track. and tired from all the activity and walking and such. And it is so hot I think I am on my way to the pool.

A day with my granddaughter.

Aug 12, 2009

She is growing up so fast. I am going to miss watching her while I go thru my surgery and rehab. I hope I recover and bounce back  fast. We went shopping all morning and it helped me fight the demons of wanting to eat. I did great today. I did alot of walking and it felt good to move. See removing food helps with the leg action. No salt. lol. It is amazing the love of a child and they see no size but love. She is an amazing little girl.I spent the entire day with Aislin our 18month old

grandaughter. She is just a joy to be with. Talking, singing, laughing

A step to the side. (cold)

Aug 11, 2009

What the heck. I am trying to be healthy and all of a sudden I feel a cold coming on. 9 days before my surgery. My primary care doctor said let it take it's course but I know my body. It usually winds up in my lungs a bronchitis. Cough plus incisions do not mix. She said to drink lots of fluids and rest. WTF that is what I have been doing for days. I have been extremely tired on this protein diet. Allentown in the rain and late nights plus lack of food brought my immune system to this point.
Well my remedy is I am going to buy zicam and try it to flush this cold out. I hope it works.
On a lighter note my rumor cell phone is back and working. Last week I jumped in our pool with it in my bathing suit top stupid I know. I transferred it over. Well off to another delicious chocolate slim fast shake. Ummm Ummm good not.
Oh an down another 1lb. Probally more but I ate saltines last night . THIS IS THE HARDEST THING I HAVE HAD TO DO YET ON THIS JOURNEY. I WANT FOOD. YOU CAN NOT TELL A FAT GIRL TO STOP EATING AND JUST DRINK AND ONE MEAL A DAY. I REPEAT HARD. I found another fat shot of me at my fattest.

This picture was taken in 08 in Wildwood NJ on the parade route. The man in the picture with me is a past member of a drum corps I taught in the 90's. TK horn god or Mr Kershaw as his band students call him. This by far is my fattest and unhealthy feeling that I have ever been. Moving along on my journey.

The First Tour of My Journey come along with me.

Aug 10, 2009

Well I decided to go the surgery route after many failed attempts on fad diets and pills and weight watchers. I want to feel healthy to be able to walk with out breathing heavy , go up and down steps with out problems. I just wanted to be a healthier person and to be a good size when my daughter finally gets married.

My weight loss journey with surgery began in 07 when I considered having the surgery. I hemmed and hauled until 4/08 when I got the permission from my doctor to see the nutritionist with Kaiser Permante.

My first visit with Betty was informational and pleasing. For the next 11 months I jumped thru hoops doing all the things that KP required. 6 months of NT counseling, a psych eval (which was fun)classes on weight loss and nutrition and all other things.

I ate the foods and the daily amounts for the 5 months kept food records for all 6 months and on 2/08/09 I had my last NT appointment and Betty said she was turning all my info into KP for the BOARD'S APPROVAL. Imagine all that work and it still had to be approved by the board.

So for 4 weeks I heard nothing. The board only reviews 10 cases every two weeks and I guess I was low man on the list. I finally emailed KP and got a response 4 days later that I was approved for my surgery. I had to call the surgeon and set up an appointment.  Well I got all upset and all the emotions were running here and there. I had a busy weekend ahead with the drum corps that I am involved in so I waited it out til  Monday.

I called Monday and could not get an appointment until 6/3/09 now this is April we were in when I called. But the first thing the surgeon required was an information meeting in the hospital in DC on 4/23/09.
The information meeting was very informative and calming. I was many steps ahead of the people already there.

My first visit with Dr Paul Lin and his associate went well. He explained things to me and required me to have a Doppler study on my legs due to the family Hx of DVT and Coronary artery disease.

Again my Hubby and I were in for a weekend of fun in the great state of NJ and the Elks convention in Wildwood, NJ. You see I am the activity director of a drum and bugle corps which my Hubby is a marching member. My title revolves around the foods for events and hotel accommodations and the sunshine girl. So my calling for my test appointment had to wait for coming home from the shore and than getting the referral from Kaiser.

My test was scheduled for 7/1/09. I had the test and than had a great month of July with family and friends. The summer is flying by already.

My next appointment on July 15Th for the surgery involved going for the first time to Washington, DC by myself on  the metro to downtown DC. The metro exit for the hospital is right outside the hospital door and is conveniently located across the street from my surgeon. I made it to DC , after a meltdown in the New Carroltown parkade, over not getting a card when I drove in.I found a guy and he told me you pay with a credit card on the way out..
First stop to the office for a mandatory Nutrition class with Claire ,Dr. Lin's NT. A nice informative class and a lot of handout and much needed info on meals and how to eat and so on and so.
After the class it was back to Dr. Lin's waiting area for an appointment with the doctor himself.  I met with the NP Denise and I signed all my surgery consent forms and than talked to Dr. Lin. I am having a screen put in my femoral area to prevent blood clots the same day as my surgery. My surgery is scheduled for noon on the 20Th of June.
Dr. Lin informed me that I was to go on a protein diet three weeks prior to the surgery ,which consists of 1000-1200 cals a day from mostly protein. I opted for the slimfast version which gives me 10grams of protein per shake and I can have 3,4 or 5 daily and a healthly meal of healthy choice frozen dinners or watch watchers.

The summer is going fast and I already am into week 2 of my special diet to reduce the fat on my liver to make the surgery easier for laporscopy. I messed up the first four days to my non contro and a vacation to the great state of Pennsylvania for an annual drum corps competition in Allentown that I go to every year. My sister and I do this as a mini vacation of drum corps. When I got home I got right on track. I  have been doing very good the first few days I was miserable but when I saw the weight dropping I realized this is the right thing to do for my health.
When I get overwhelmed I go out and swim in our pool to let off steam and cool off.

I am excited and anxious for the surgery. I feel like I am having a funeral for the foods that I love that made me fat. But I want to control what I put in right now I feel hungry all of the time. You can not tell a fat girl no. I think I will do well with this journey in a new eating direction.
My only problem is taking all the information that the Nutritions , weight watchers and all the fads have put in my brain and try to figure out what is right.  You know 5 fruits and veggies , 3-4 calcium produtcts, 2 fats and than your protein. My motto is I am going to do what the surgeon's tell me and work on it day by day.
I have also had people question me why am I having this surgery?  Why because it is my choice and I want to live healthy and not take all the medications I take right now. Blood pressure pills, cholestrol meds, water pills......
So this is the beginning of my Journey and I am looking forward to the pot of gold over the rainbow.
