Wow, somebody hit the brakes on me!

Aug 29, 2007

8/28/07 - Well today I went to have my one-on-one with the Nutritionist at Mt. Carmel.  On my letter, it stated that my appointment would be from 1:30pm-2:30pm.  I was only in there for 25 minutes and to think that I had to pay $200 for this.  Oh well, at least I still have a couple of more classes with the nutritionist pre/post op.

8/29/07 - I called the person who submits the insurance claims for Mid Ohio Surgical Associates.  I told her that I had finished my one-on-one with the Nutritionist and my last class with the Dietician is scheduled for Sept. 6.  She then asked me which insurance I had and I explained that Medicare was Primary and Aetna is Secondary.  She then asked if I was seeing my Primary Physician each time after I saw the dietician?  I told her it only happened twice but not in sequence.   Once was in May and the other time was in August.  She said that my 3-month period would need to be consecutive so I could start again with August.  So now I must finish 2 more months of going to the dietician and the doctor through October to make it count.

To top off all of that, my surgeon is not able to remove my gallbladder while she is doing my lap band.  This is due to the risk of infection.  Therefore, she told me that I would have to go through my 1st surgery to remove the Gallbladder, heal, and then she would do my 2nd surgery which will be the Lap band.  Boy, I just love my life.  Next time I think I will drive......Marie

What has been going on......

Aug 16, 2007

8/16/07 - It's been awhile since my last post.  Well, after seeing the sleep doctor, I was diagnosed with a severe case of "Sleep Apnea".  It's not the normal type of sleep apnea either.  My body just has to be different from everyone else. It's hard to explain however I do know that I have a CPAP machine that just came out a month ago.  So far I have noticed some changes in the exhaustion I have been dealing with during the day.

8/3/07 - I went to the Dietician and I have one more appt. left that is scheduled on 9/6/07.  I also will see the Nutritionist on 8/28/07.  After that, my paperwork will be completed and submitted to Aetna for approval.

8/14/07 - I had to go to the ER at 3:00am due to severe pain in my middle chest, through my right side and back into my shoulders.  It turned out that I have a bunch of Gall Stones and need to have my Gall bladder taken out.  I contacted Dr. Choban's office to see if she did this type of proceedure while putting on the Lap Band and they said, "yes".

8/17/07 - I have a follow-up appt. with my  Primary Doctor, so I will discuss things further with him.

I can't wait to get things rolling so that, I can  begin my new life.  Till next time, take care everyone........Marie

I met Dr. Choban today.

Jul 05, 2007

7/3/07 - I went to my scheduled appointment with Dr. Choban today.  We discussed where I was at on completing my items on my checklist.  The only things left to do are:

*Finish working with my dietitician through 9/7/07
*Schedule an appt. with the nutritionist at Mt. Carmel

Dr. Choban then explained the lap-band procedure and why she feels it would be a better choice for me due to my RSD among the many other things that I have wrong with me.  She has seen a lot of pain patients have the Gastric Bypass done and afterwards they are the ones that do not do very well because of their other problems that cause them great pain.  Complications can occur and has occurred such as; increased pain, severe dumping, hernias, bowel obstruction and many other problems.  I told Dr. Choban that I have spoke with other doctors who think very highly of her; therefore I agree with what she is saying and will do whatever she feels is necessary for my case.

I feel very comfortable with her, so we are moving forward on getting my final things done so that we can get an approval from the insurance co.
Untill next time; take care and stay strong everyone.   Marie.........................

The latest news on my situation

Jul 05, 2007

7/5/07 - Well a lot has happened since my last post.  I went to see the Dr. for my sleep study results on 6/26.  I was told that during the original sleep study test, they found that I had Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).  However, when I returned to complete the study using the CPAP machine, my diagnosis showed that I still had moderate sleep apnea.  My numbers where still not where they should have been.

So, there is a new machine that recently came out called a "Rest Med Serro Adaptor".  My doctor had me come back in on 7/2 and they redid my study using this machine to see if it clears up the problems with my apnea.  I go back on 7/17 for the results.

Wish me luck!.......Marie

Sleep Study 2 Completed

Jun 18, 2007

6/11/07 - Well I went for the second part of my sleep study today.  I had to wear all of the cords and wires like the first time except this time they added a nose mask to it.  I tried on a couple of the face masks but it was just a little bit too much for me.

I go back on 6/26/07 to see Dr. Samadder for the results.  I'm very interested to see if they are positive or not because I slept very well during both tests.

More updates from my checklist

Jun 07, 2007

Well here are a few more items that I have been working on since my last post.

6/4/07 - I meet with a dietician to begin a 3-month diet program as required by my insurance.  I will go back in July, Aug, & finally Sept to meet with the dietician each time to go over where I am at and to see if I have lost any weight.

I also attended my required Bariatric Support Group Meeting tonight in which the subject was "Family Therapy".  This is another one of the items on my "Bariatric Candidate Program Checklist" that I can now check off as being completed.

It was a very interesting day to say the least.........Marie

Sleep Study - Part 1 Completed

May 31, 2007

5/29/07 - I finished the first portion of my sleep study.  I wasn't sure after they hooked me up with all of those wires if I would be able to sleep or not but once I laid down, I was out like a light.

The next day I was pretty wiped out though so I napped off and on all day trying to catch up on sleep.  My second part of the study is scheduled for June 11.

More items to update

May 25, 2007

Well I saw Dr. Samadder (pulmonologist) on May 23.  He has scheduled me for the following:

5/29 - 1st Sleep Study

6/11 - 2nd Sleep Study

6/26 - Follow up with Dr. Samadder

I have also been scheduled for a consultation with the surgeon on 6/5

Things are really moving along.

Update on preliminary testing

May 19, 2007

5/17/07 - I already saw the psychologist and he is currently putting
                 together his evaluation for me.

5/23/07 - Pulmonologist appt. to rule out sleep apnea

6/04/07 - Bariatric Support Group Meeting (I must attend one of these)
This one is going to be on "Family Therapy", so it should be
                 interesting.

6/04/07 - Dietitician appt. scheduled.  Part of the requirements for
Aetna is for me to see a dietitician for 3 months and go on
a low-fat diet prior to surgery.

*The only thing that I am waiting for currently is to be scheduled to see
the surgeon for the first time.  I should hear something anytime now.

Things are beginning to move along and I can't tell you how happy
I am to change my eating habits and begin my new life.

I've made my decision

May 17, 2007

5/16/07: After speaking with my primary care physician yesterday, he feels that gastric bypass surgery is my best option at this time in order to lose the weight.  He does not want me to get any worse than what I already am from my disease (RSD) and Degenerative Disk Disease.  He is concerned about me getting high blood pressure or diabetes because they both run in my family.

I signed my committment letters, included the $300 administrative fee, and placed the envelope in the mail today.  The next step is for someone to call me and schedule my first appt. with the surgeon.

I'm so excited that things are finally moving forward.  I look forward to my new life and healthy way of living.  Thank you God!
