One Year Bandiversary

Dec 27, 2008

Well, it’s finally here, my one year bandiversary.  Last year on this day I went in to have surgery weighing 206 lbs and wore tight 18s, 20s, some 22s and 1X tops.  Two weeks prior to this when I started my pre-op diet, I weighed 215 lbs.  My highest weight ever was about 7 years ago when I weighed 231 lbs.  I am 5’ 2” tall, so that’s a lot for a person my height!  When I weighed 231 lbs, I joined Weight Watchers and managed to lose around 80 lbs.  Obviously, I didn’t keep it off.  I rejoined many, many times over the years with very little success.  I have also done just about every other thing known to lose weight.  I researched the Lapband for about a year before I had surgery.  At this time I was Insulin Resistant, had high cholesterol, acid reflux and pain in my knees.  I have been very fortunate in my life not to have high blood pressure.  Diabetes is very prominent on both sides of my family and that is the number 1 reason I had Lapband surgery – to prevent becoming diabetic.

Today, I weigh 154 lbs. and wear a size 10 slacks and jeans, and Medium tops and jackets.  I walk/run 65 minutes, 6 days a week.  I am VERY happy with my success with the Lapband.  I would have loved to have been at goal – I have about 19 lbs to go, but I’m still happy.  I lose very, very slowly – if at all - now.  I hit a plateau a while back and was on it for a couple of months, lost about 10 lbs and plateaued again.  I continue to watch what I eat (not so much the last couple of weeks) and exercise.  I know that the rest of the weight will eventually come off.  I just have to be patient (which is not always easy).

I have a 10 cc AP Lapband.  I’ve had 5 fills and 3 unfills.  Two of the unfills have been due to acid reflux that just started out of nowhere.  I am a little loose right now, but am going to try to hang on without getting another fill.  I’m very leery of being too tight and developing the nightly reflux again.  That is just misery!

Good luck and continued success to everyone in 2009!
