Today I had my appointment with Roxy the bariatric nurse coordinator. She had a great attitude and the meeting went well. I do not have to have any MD supervised wieght loss documented, just a list of what I've done diet wize and how I did on them. Oh boy, do I have a long list of that! Made me think of how much $ I've put into wieght reduction only to find myself so big.
I need a psych eval and a nutritional eval and then I meet with the surgeon, Dr White. I see him in the halls at our hospital and he is so polite, says "Hi" to me even before he knew who I was.
My feet and ankles are swollen right now, comes and goes. Roxy thinks Dr White may want to have me get filters to prevent DVT's. These are inserted (under local usually) into the vena cava to "catch" any clotts that may form while undergoing surgery or in the post op period. Obese are more prone to DVT's. He doesn't usually do this on everyone, so I really wasn't thinking I'd be a candidate. It will be up to him.
So, Roxy said it could go real fast here. The psych doc's are usually booked tight, so that may take awhile to get in. I may have the surgery end of July beginning of Aug ! I can't beleive that. I thought it would take longer.

Well, so I've begun. I went to the info meeting with the surgeon and set up my appt with the bariatric nurse this coming thursday the 14 of June. I completed the paperwork I received at the info meeting. They took a copy of my insurance card. If this is a go, I should have the surgery at the hospital I work at. I called my insurance before I went to the info meeting and they said no, we don't cover that. But, I knew nurses that had this done with our insurance. So, I guess the bariatric nurse and her peeps know what magic needs to be done to get approval and even said NOT to call our insurance. Uh oh, I hope I haven't already screwed this process up. Seriously, after talking to hubby and browsing here, I'm feeling pretty good about things and I think this surgery will help me. I know I'm in for hard work and I have to break this hold food has on me, but I can do this.
