I grew up with a MO father who was always the life of every party. When I was 27, he had a massive coronary on the golf course and died. He was 52 years old. I am built just like him and share many of the same comorbidities. I'm determined to break the cycle of genetics and know what it's like to live in a healthy body.
I started this journey in February 2009 when I went to a surgical seminar. I had been thinking about surgery for several years but was too nervous to make the changes that it required. I finally had a consultation and started my 6 month insurance required diet in November 2009. Due to a tumultuous time which included a very serious car wreck and a very unexpected pregnancy & miscarriage, I didn't finish the diet until May. I was approved for surgery in June and I had my surgery on July 6.
When I first talked to Dr. Boyce, we talked about RNY. After a lot of research I changed my mind and convinced him that I want a duodenal switch. I really have to thank the people on the OH DS board and dsfacts.com. I'm excited about being on the Dark Side!
