Seminar and 1st Support meeting - done! - now wait...

May 05, 2011

So seminar day finally came yesterday. I was so excited as to me this made my start to my journey more "official". Honestly I didn't learn much from it as I have been doing my research on my own for the past few months. I learned that my surgeon's bariatrics program is a center of excellence for a few insurance companies - which translates to he accepts their insurance at the price they are willing to pay LOL!

I also learned that even though my insurance (tricare) pays for everything we still have to come out of pocket for the program fee ($275) and THEIR psychiatrist fee is ($350). Okay I'm lying.. I didn't learn that last night either, I had already had a heads-up about that too. (THANKS TRICIA!!!) I need to call them and ask if we have to use their psychiatrist as one IN-NETWORK would be free. It's definitely worth asking.

After the seminar was the support group meeting. Last night's topic was how to stop regain. Again, I've learned so much here on OH from people that have are fighting the regain battle everyday that I didn't learn anything new their either. Actually now that I think about it the topic was regain but they ended up talking about breaking a stall.... hmmm I wonder if she realizes that Posted Image.

All in all it was still worth my time AND drive (about 50 mins away from where I live). Now I have to wait to get my appointment to see the surgeon.

*sighs* Hurry up and wait.. the story of my life as a military wife Posted Image.

Approved!!!

Apr 12, 2011

Okay no I'm not approved for the surgery, but I am APPROVED TO HAVE MY FIRST SURGEON CONSULTATION!!!!! I am overjoyed at this point!  And the approval took ONE DAY!!  I saw my doc on Friday the 8th.  It was sent to Tricare for approval Monday the 11th.  And I received my approval online today before 12pm.  (Forgive me for putting in dates and times like this but I plan on starting a wrtten journal so I want to have all of these facts to write down).

I am so EXCITED!  I can't lie, I actually shed a few tears when I saw the approval.  Having kids has made me such a sap lol.  Now to decide whether I wait for them to contact me or if I should contact them on my own.

Sending out positive thoughts to my BFF Mishy that she can start her process soon also!

The process has officially begun

Happy Happy Joy Joy !! Today was a great day!  I met my new doctor who is a real sweetheart, his nurse is really nice also.  He thinks I would be a great candidate for WLS and has put my referral in while I sat there talking to him!  I can not be happier!  He even told me if I didnt get the approval by Wednesday to call him to find out what's going on.

So I called the infamous referral lady at my first doc just to see if she had even gotten to my file yet and to let them know that I was no longer a patient.  Can you believe she hadn't gotten to it yet?  THREE WEEKS and it's still sitting in her office!   I'm so glad I left that doctor as soon as I felt there was going to be a problem.  Ugggh.  Thank goodness we have the option to change or primary care physicians because being stuck with that office would have made me go postal.  But that part of life is over, now on to better things!

This is going to be a loooonnngggg weekend!

Doctor Appointment is FRIDAY!!

Apr 06, 2011

UPDATE - Bariatric surgery seminar is May 4th!!!

That's right!  You read it.  Not only did my primary care doctor change go through today April 6th, but I have already called and got an appointment for FRIDAY April 8th to get my referral!!!  The person that does appointments was like, "That's odd to get one so quickly."  I told her that's God working, he knows how bad I want this! (My daddy the deacon would be proud to hear his heathen daughter say that LOL)

I could not be any more excited!  These 2 days can not go by quickly enough.  I swear the sun seems brighter and I feel so much happier today.  Isn't it amazing how when you're going on the journey how the smallest things can seem so BIG!

And ohh yea, referral lady at my original doctor's office.. YOU can't steal my joy any longer!!!

Have a GREAT day everyone!

NOT A GAME!!!

Mar 31, 2011

Yes, referral lady thought I was playing when I said my referrals will be time sensitive and if she couldn't comply I would have to change doctors.  IN CASE YOU DIDN'T NOTICE THIS IS NOT A GAME REFERRAL LADY!!

As of 1:30pm today I officially changed doctors to the one one of the army wives I met online is using (it took her 3 months to have all testing AND approval for the surgery done AND that included the Christmas holiday)  .  Needless to say I am overjoyed at this point!  My primary care physician change goes into effect as of April 6th (next Wednesday) and you know I will be on the phone making my appointment as soon as they open.

And so..... doctor change it is!

Mar 31, 2011

So I called the part time referral chick today and she tells me it can take anywhere from weeks to a few months to do a referral.  I AM GONE!  I really have no patience to be waiting for a referral that I know can be done within a few days tops and Tricare (my health insurance) usually approves within a few hours of receiving the referral.  If this was the only referral I would need from my primary doctor I might have let it pass but once I see the surgeon I will need referrals from my primary doc for every test I need to take.  I can't deal with this part time woman, so, I'm changing doctors TODAY.  My goal is to have my surgery before the kids start school in August and I can't have this woman standing in my way.

Livid!!!!

Mar 30, 2011

To recap.. I went to my doctor 2 weeks ago and we went over my history and he agree I ahould be a good candidate for the surgery.  So I hadn't had blood work since I had my baby 10 months ago so he ordered bloodwork on me but I had to come the following Monday to do it.  That was the 21st of this month.  They got the results back on Wednesday the 23rd and my referral was to be put in then.

I call today just to check to see if it has been done since when I checked with my insurance company they said they haven't received it.  I get my doctor's referral "office" and an answering machine saying "If you're looking for the status of a referral please be patient, you'll know when we or the referred doctor's office contacts you."  Then it goes on to say that the ONE woman that does the referrals only works Mondays, Thursdays, and from 9am - 1pm on Wednesdays!!!  Mind you this is a center of 4 different doctors and she is the only referral person.

Needless to say I am pissed!  Once I finally get the referral for the surgeon and he tells me all the specialists I have to see I will have to get all of the referrals through my PCM and this woman that only works 2.5 days a week.

I
AM
BEYOND
THROUGH!!

I'm seriously thinking about changing doctors.  I'll see how my convo goes with this referral lady in the morning.... Please let it go well.

Things are sooooo slooooooow in the beginning

Mar 23, 2011

I recently moved from Germany so I have a new doctor.  I had wanted to have my WLS while I was overseas but I ended up pregnant so here we are... almost 2 years later AND 30 lbs heavier ...ugggh..

Well my new doc is on board with me getting the surgery but with my insurance I need a referral to the surgeon.  So Monday I had my bloodwork done and the doc should have the results back today....and then he can put in my referral for the surgeon.

I AM SOOO READY!! I guess I'm going to have to be that annoying patient and call him later today to make sure he's doing what he's suppose to lol.

NO MATTER WHAT, I WILL BE GETTING MY SURGERY THIS YEAR!!!
