My true name is Paula, given to me by my mother, who died when I was 1 1/2. I miss her even though I did not get to know her as an older individual. I have a strong dad and two older sisters who kept me on the right path. We were poor, but I didn't really think we were. We lived on a farm and grew our vegetables and raised cattle. My dad also had one to two additional jobs. He worked so hard for us girls. I would like to think I inherited my core strength from him.
Obesity is a family trait, especially from my mother's side. Both of my sisters are obese, but not morbidly obese like myself. It is so weird to type that statement. I am a very accomplished person. I have obtained two bachelor degrees in education and nursing, and a masters of nurse anesthesia. I worked hard, saved money, and now own a home. I finally paid off my 2001 Honda Accord last year. My family is proud of my accomplishments and I am too, but there has always been a struggle I have not been able to conquere... my weight.
My story is much like everyone else's.... large kid, bigger adult. Yo-Yo of weight loss. I never thought I would entertain WLS. It started with looking into the LapBand, then I discovered the sleeve. I truely believe this is the tool, much like the books I used to study for my degrees, that will give me success. I will take all of it one day at a time.
I thank God for allowing this possiblity. My hope is back.
