Surgery finished, one week out

Feb 03, 2009

It actually feels so long ago since I went to the hospital, let them poke and prod, had the surgery, and woke up SO groggy.  It was my first surgery.  Yes, I was uneasy, but I endured.  Versed is a great drug.  My days in the hospital were using the morphine PCA, walking when I could, and nodding off the chair.  Amazing how drugs affect you so much.  I did have the unpleasantness of waking up dry heaving.  Not pleasant.  The barium swallow also made me puke.  Yuck.  I'm not the first, but yowsa....

Since I have gotten home, things have drastically improved.  My gas pain - gone. My drinking - much improved. My ability to walk and do the 2 level of stairs in the house - better every day.  No fevers, no issues. Good friends helped me out.  Three traveled four hours to spend the weekend with me.  They brought flowers, slippers, pajamas, and two sugar free hot apple cider boxes.  It was so wonderful!  Another friend runs me to appointments and where ever I needed to go.  Another is just a phone call away and calls every day to check on me.  My family lives another state away.  It was hard going through this without them, but their prayers and phone calls were powerful.  I feel truly blessed.

Liquids go down easy now.  Looking forward to full liquids tomorrow!!!  Seeing Dr. Folwell and nutritionist tomorrow.  Bye Bye to my drain and staples!!
