Hello OH, my name is Sharon and I am 37 years old.  I have been overweight since high school (which has been over 20 years ago now) and I came to the realization that I can't carry this weight on me any longer.  I just can't do it....it's tiring...my knees hurt...my back hurt...I'm exhausted all of the time and I get angry  with myself for not having enough energy to play with my 3 year old.  So the time has come for me to make a change!

I began looking into WLS about 5 years ago but I kept punking out because of being afraid of surgery.  Then I started the process up again in 2008 under University of Chicago (their program is now defunct) and I was denied for some crazy reason or another.  I chalked it up as a sign....until I got laid off last year.  I knew that if I stayed at home for a long period of time without working I would get depressed and want to eat and probably end up gaining more weight - so before I went down that road I joined with the Midwest Bariatric Institute in October of 2009 was approved for Lap-Band in January of 2010....yep that's it  - 3 months.  I HIGHLY recommend them....so now I'm patiently waiting - well, actually anxiously waiting for my surgery date which is March 4th.

So to say I'm nervous is ... well let's just say HELL TO THE YEAH...because I can't wait!  I always used to say there's a skinny screaming to get out but now I'm saying there's a healthier person waiting to make her arrival .  I really have to give praises to my GOD because...well just because...my praise is personal....but I do thank HIM for my husband who has been really been supportive in my journey.  My mom was a little leery at first but she understands now and I have a couple of besties who are really supportive so I have some good people in my corner.

My hubby and I are both on this weight loss path together and he's really doing well with diet and exercise and a personal trainer...but I opted to stay home with our child and exercise at home.  With $ being tight we couldn't afford 2 memberships and a babysitter so I had to do what I had to do....in the meantime thank GOD for health insurance .  I have people laughing because we are the epitome of the slim-quick commercial...so far he's lost over 50lbs and I've lost close to 20.  We are going to make it!  We are doing it for our health, each other and our child!

So as you read my page remember you are not in this alone....we're all in this together, good luck with your future weight loss success!!!

Smooches, Sharon (SugarShack)
