My VSG experience with Dr. Ramos Kelly

Aug 22, 2011

I had my VSG done with Dr. Ramos Kelly on Aug 17 2011. I will admit that initially I was a bit skeptical of going to Mexico for surgery based on the rumors and comments from naysayers who all had strong opinions on why NOT to go there. However, after doing tons of research on Dr. Kelly and speaking with him on the phone I felt more than comfortable with my decision to travel to Mexico and have my VSG done there. In addition to Dr. Kelly I had the pleasure of dealing with Trish his patient coordinator and she too helped me feel comfortable with my decision. She answered all of my questions and the questions she couldn't answer she made sure I was able to speak with Dr. Kelly personally to have them answered. I honestly believe she is the BEST thing since sliced bread. lol She was absolutely amazing before I went to Tijuana and once I arrived I didn't think it would be possible for her to improve on her perfection but she did! She is a loving, caring and wonderful person and she was truly a blessing to have around. Dr. Kelly is sooooo lucky to have her! I arrived on surgery day got all my lab work done met with the Dr's and then hung out in my room until it was time for the "fun" to begin. lol The hospital is adequate it's not what you're used to in the states but it's not the back alley location that friends and family all expected. lol Almost all of my nurses spoke English and were great. After surgery I had a hard time of it due to my reaction to the anesthesia so at that point I was wondering WHAT have I done????  Then ... the next day I was feeling so great I could've gotten up and did the Dougie! LOL I was seriously wondering if anything had been done at all ... I felt THAT good! lol I stayed in the hospital until Friday morning then I was taken to the Lucerna hotel (yes I upgraded). It was a nice hotel with a nice pool to relax by. Trish came over on Friday and took me shopping it was the best. It really started feeling like I was actually on vacation instead of just having major surgery! Dr. Kelly came by the hotel to check on me Friday evening and my family and I just had a great time the rest of the weekend. We came home on Sunday and I wouldn't change a  thing!

I would DEFINITELY recommend Dr. Kelly and Trish to anyone! If you have any questions please contact me directly ... I'm happy to share!

I'm scared ... but not for the reasons you think ...

Aug 11, 2011

It feels like my mom has put out a bulletin back home because all of my aunts are calling me to discuss my upcoming surgery. Today one of my aunts called me and asked if I was scared I told her YES ... but I think she was surprised to learn I wasn't scared for the same reasons she thought I should be. This is what I'm scared of going into my VSG journey ...

- Scared that it won't work for me
- Scared that I will have hideous loose skin on my stomach
- Scared that I will exercise insessently to combat the loose skin which will mean I need to eat more for energy which in   turn will make me not lose weight ... ie it won't work
- Scared that I won't exercise in an attempt to not have to eat more for energy and I will have loose skin ....
- I'm soooo scared that my stomach will look like a bucket of chitterlings ...

So once I told my aunt that she laughed and said well ... it's good to hear you're not scared about the surgery. lol

I KNOW this is the best decision for me ... I'm just scared because I've wanted this fat gone for SOOOOOO long! It's hard to believe that this time ... it's REALLY going to happen. I'm just scared that ... I will wake up and be the person this surgery didn't work for. Then I will still be fat like me.

Trying to think HAPPY thoughts!! However ... the closer it gets to surgery day the more I worry ... "what if it doesn't work"?
