i did it!

Mar 20, 2010

So, I am in the hospital and my procedure was done yesterday. I feel great. I'm up walking around, I"m off IV pain meds and onto oral percocet. I feel really good! No complications. I just had my first bite of orange jello. First thing I"ve eaten since Wednesday! It was yummy haha. And after two small spoonfulls I'm full. What a strange sensation. I've had lots of visitors and I'm feeling so optimistic about this next chapter in my life! Yaaaaaaaay!

Finally!

Jan 20, 2010

I am so pumped! I had the last of my surgeon visits today and everyone (excersise physiologist, nutritionist, surgeon) cleared me for surgery and gave me kudos for being a great patient who has made a lot of positive changes already.

Unfortunately due to the discovery of H pylori, I have to take a regimen of Prevpac for 14 days then wait another 4 weeks for the breath test to ensure that the H pylori is gone.

This means my surgery will be scheduled for 7-8 weeks from now instead of 3-4. But I get my surgery date tomorrow and I'm so excited!

I am so thrilled to look at the long list of requirements I was given on the first day that I went in and seeing all the check marks indicating that they are ALL DONE!!!

I haven't even gone in for surgery yet and I already feel so accomplished!

One more hurdle crossed!

Jan 08, 2010

Had my endoscopy/colonoscopy today and was totally nervous about it before hand. But The anesthesia was good and I don't remember a thing. I saw the pictures of my esophagus and colon though...weird!!!! Anyway, all was normal so as long as the biopsies also come back normal, I'm good to go for scheduling a surgery date!! Wooooo HOOOOO!!!!! Can't wait for my appointment on the 20th when I can find out when I'll be going in. Now just to cross the hurdle of insurance approval which should be nothing since I have all my requirements and my BMI is 58. I'm getting really excited. I can't wait to be much healthier and when my son (7 months old) is old enough to run around I can run around with him! I also can't help but think of the cosmetic stuff like feeling that even at my size I'm already a really pretty girl and can't wait to shed the extra weight and let all of my NATURAL BEAUTY shine through :)

Surgery soon!!!

Jan 06, 2010

This is an email I just got from my surgeon's nurse practitioner:

"At your next visit on January 20, we should be able to schedule a tentative date for surgery as long as your EGD is normal.  The date  is usually about 3-4 weeks away.  You will need to have a pre-op visit before surgery and pretesting once you are approved by insurance."

I am feeling really excited!

Support Group

Jan 05, 2010

Last night I attended a support group for bariatric patients who have had (or are having) surgery here where I am, which is coincidentally also where I work. Others who've had their surgery elsewhere are also welcomed to join. It was a pretty small group but really good for me. It was led by the nutritionist who I see regularly in relation to my surgery, and there was one other woman in there who was pre-op like me. She was in the same place as I am, meaning that she also is almost finished with her insurance requirements and will be submitting later this month for approval. I feel that coming to the meetings pre, during and post operatively is great, and gives me people to relate to and keep me motivated. I got to see some peopel who were several years out and struggling with keeping the weight off. Good to keep in mind and be realistic about the fact that there will be a struggle down the road, and be prepared for it. I'm excited about having found the group, I just wish it were a bit larger. Looked for other such groups in the area and can't really find anything.
