Hi ya'll, my name is Kala and I am from Texas obviously! Anyways, I have a wonderful life filled with wonderful blessings from God! One of which is my son who is 14 months now! He is my world and I have never been so in-love before!  I have a wonderful Mom who has been my inspiration for all things through my life and I am so thankful to her! I am currently in nursing school to get my RN degree and it's thanks to her for being such an amazing role model!  She has also stood by me my whole life while I have struggled with my weight! Up until about 7 months ago, I had just pretty much accepted that I was never going to be skinny or be at a healthy weight, EVER!  I started my research journey in January of 2010 and had decided to get the lap-band.  With more and more research done, I soon realized that that specific surgery was NOT for me.  A close friend of mine had had the VSG and she loved it! She soon talked me into how looking into getting it done!  I did some more research and by June I knew that the VSG was for me and was the surgery that i wanted to change my life.  However, things did not go so easily at that time because my insurance wouldn't cover the VSG because they were still considering it "experimental".  Well regardless, they lady doing insurance verification for my surgeon, talked me into coming on down for the seminar and submitting it to my insurance anyways!! So reluctantly, I did.  Then on an amazing Aug day I got the news that my insurance had accepted my request and I got a date for surgery!! December 16, 2010 came and I can't believe that I am actually getting to type about it!! I feel so amazing already and would STRONGLY recommend anyone thinking about doing it to DO IT!!  I have already lost 14 lbs and I love my Sleeve!!  I know that I have chosen to do something that is going to forever change my life for the good and I am so happy!! Most importantly, my son will get to have me by his side as he grows and we will get to go places and do things that probably would not have been possible if I hadn't had my surgery!!  I am so thankful to God first of all, because without Him NOTHING is possible.  I am also very thankful to my Mom for standing by me and encouraging me when others did not.  Last but certainly not least, I am so very thankful to Dr. Syn and his staff, because without them and their perseverance I would not have gotten to have the VSG!!
