Question:
My tummy feels achy on the inside...

I am nearly 6 weeks postop. My incision is looking and feeling fine, but I have lately had a dull ache coming from the inside. It kind of feels like I have been lightly hit in the stomach. I don't know whether I've had this all along and it was masked by the soreness of the incision or if something is wrong. I'm losing slowly compared to some...about 25 pounds so far. I'm not transected and I lay awake last night worrying that I've disrupted my staple line. Is this just a normal part of the healing process? Thank you.    — [Anonymous] (posted on January 18, 2002)

I'm the original poster, I forgot to mention that my surgery was an open RNY

Hi, I had been told it really takes alot of constant stuffing to disrupt your staple line. Maybe you are just using more and different muscles now that you are healing more and they are sore....if it continues or gets worse I would call the surgeon. Good luck! Diane

Hi. I had my open RNY on Oct. 18, 2001. I know what you mean about the pain. It took about 12 weeks for that to go completely away. I feel great now. The only pain is my incision. My doctor told me it takes about 6 months for that to completely heal. I am also a slow losser, I'm down 50lbs, started at 5'4" & 270lbs. Hope this helps.

I'm 6 weeks post op today and my stomach has stopped hurting but will act up a little whenever I do a little too much housework. For example, if I'm mopping the kitchen floor I get little twinges so I just stop, sit down for 10 minutes and then start up again. I've just learned to listen to whatever it's trying to tell me. Good luck!
